Gilbert for 5 to 6 innings, bridge to Hess using Newman? Is this the optimal formula? Call me crazy but I start the 8th with Hess if we have a lead. How many pitches did he throw today?
Speaking of Hess, I have not seen the dominance of a mid 90s fastball plus a slider since Brad Lidge as an Astro before he lost his confidence and needed a straight jacket.
Gilbert/Newman/Hess, though Bush and Petersen were also discussed. Hope Gilbert can get us 5+ strong innings or we're in trouble. I expect our guys will show up to play. Making adjustments to batting order was also discussed as goldilocks and others have been struggling.
Neaux because your formula contains gas can Newman. See that dink that St. Louis keeps running out there. I'd rather that kid that does push ups in the dugout than Newman.
Agreed. The blueprint to beat Oregon State is to get out to an early lead and make them feel the pressure. You have to get at least 5 out of Gilbert, you can't make any errors, and you can't just pop everything up at the plate like in the first matchup with OSU. They key is Gilbert though. Can he just have that one moment where he is locked the fuck in and throwing over the corners for strikes and getting them to chase breaking pitches and off speed pitches. We shall see Geaux Tigers!!!
You guys have forgotten Beck who has yet to pitch in Eauxmaha. This kid almost always has 2 to 3 solid innings in him. Perfect day for him to show up
