Unless Poche is saying he is just not ready no way I would do this. Poche game 1, win that one then hold Lang for 3....lose game 1 then gotta throw Lang game 2. Holding Poche till game 2 run to much risk of not getting back to Lang.
Only way I would start anybody but Poche is if Walker is really healthy and Mainieri is keeping it under his hat. A game 1 win would be huuuge but so would a game 1 loss.
We have to go Wholestaff one of the 3 days. I say do it Monday. That gives Poche another day of rest.
That sounds like just giving Monday up and depending on winning the next 2. A Wholestaff loss in game 2 is not as damaging as it would be in game one. Starting Poche in game 1 keeps open the option of starting Lange Tuesday if it's necessary. Yes, I know that would only give him 3 days rest but he would still give us the better shot at winning.
Prob with that is lose Monday then you pitch Poche tues and if lose that one it's over with Lang on the bench not getting a chance. Pitch Poche mon and if lose then you throw Lang tues and go wholestaff wed but at least your ace wasn't just sitting on the bench. If Poche wins mon then go wholestaff staff tues bc you know you you still have wed for Lang. Like I said only way I would be throwing Poche mon is if he is saying he's not ready.
Yesterday isn't tomorrow. This is it. Like the waterboy you can't hold anything back now. Throw your best.
I'm going to rely on Paul with input from his pitchers to make the right call. Personally, I think Poche would benefit from another days rest.
