Glad we got the win. Another positive is Lange having a pretty good showing in game 1. Poche came back down to earth a bit. The sweep would've sucked, maybe the sky isn't falling.
After losing a series in Florida, where exactly are we? Baseball America has us at #9, down from #4 Perfect Game has us at #10, down from #6 D1 Baseball has us at #6 down from #5 Not a bad fall considering a series loss, in conference and on the road. Currently, as a team, we are hitting .309, slugging .452 with an ob % of .404. All the while our opponents are hitting .217, slugging .323 and a respectable ob% of.305. So that says our pitching is not all that bad considering the series loss with the season to date. Clean up some fielding errors and that ob% will continue to drop. Our hitting though, not so good when facing pitchers with an era under 3. How are we pitching? As a team we are throwing 3.35 and that includes the pen. Not bad considering the few meltdowns we have seen from our Friday and Saturday starters. Even after Saturdays display of humanity, Poche is still a .090 pitcher. Walker is 3.69 and Lange is 4.09. Kiel is 19.5…and that’s all I gotta say about that Gilbert with 19.1 innings (half as much as starter Poche) at a 1.86 era which, is almost better than Newman in comparison. All in all we look on paper like a top 10 team. I’d argue the talent is easily top 5 if all we did was take more of an aggressive approach at the plate. Inject some small ball because by god, we got some wheels. Hell, even paps got a stolen base against Rivera. So bunt the fuggin ball and move them runners. Just an idea.
I'd say no automatic hit and runs esp first pitch no outs with bat in the hands of Duplantis. Turn the automatic button to off.
Luckily Florida does it almost as much as CPM. That micromanaging mf is like Les miles with the offense. But like cali said when he should do it he swallows the whistle. Choking noises can be heard I assume.
I'm curious; getting the win in the eight inning of game 3 means our success came against UF's worst pitching of the weekend, right? Maybe I should be a little more down on the team...
I would happily take Florida's worst pitching and inject them into the middle of our pen. But we would have to fire Dunn to sustain the talent and OMG, that ain't happening with him being the pitching whisperer and all. To your point though, I honestly believe we were finally seeing the ball. Something a scouting report might help with we finally got. Credit Jordan for injecting a little life into the dug out. Up till that point all you could hear coming out of the dug out was Dunn thinking.
