Terry, is the AJC stuff legit? I know TI and BOL have their credible guys that are talking about it but you never know. Plus, isnt this story supposed to affect other programs?
Terry, you are way out in left field on this one. i wasn't referring to Keyes high school graduation issue. I'm referring to his current singing to the NCAA after he was dismissed from the team. Wait and see. And NO school turned us in on the current issue. It came to light following a complaint by a Prof. Gundlach who is changing his story faster than John kerry ever did(see today's Huntsville Times). And yes bama is definitely involved in stirring the pot. believe what you want. But it will backfire. The bammers have pulled a sneak attack just like Lebanon and Auburn will strike back with the fury of the Israelis.
A different perspective by Kevin Strickland who attended the University of Alabama. http://theherald.pickens.net/sports/side071906.htm
Am I the only person who realizes that TAKING the class is OK? No one said the courses were illegal. My understanding is that some of these athletes were given credit for taking the class even though they didn't actually do any of the work. From what I gather, it would be next to impossible for that professor to have taught that many directed reading courses over 2 years, meaning he was possibly giving credit to people who weren't actually doing any of the required work.
That has never been stated in either the NYT articles or by professor Gundlach. The issue was that it was a crip course. Anybody who has ever attended college knows about crip courses, knows how to find them, and knows to take a few of them to balance your GPA over the long haul. * Athletes represented 22% of Petee's participants over a 4 year period. * Football athletes represented 7% of Petee's participants over the 4 yr period. * The football players average grade was nearly a half-point lower than the general students. Where's the advantage? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.....:thumb:
I take this to mean that he was giving credit for courses he couldn't possibly be teaching. So if he couldn't possibly be teaching them, the students couldn't possibly be taking them. I'm not saying these types of classes aren't legit, just there's something fishy about this particular professor.
I'm betting the house you havent read the previous post. How can players be favored when they only made up 6% of the class? Yep, 94% of these classes were students.
Maybe you couldn't read the fine print the first time, so I wrote it bigger this time. No one is disputing that courses like this are legit. The accusation is taht this professor claims to have taught more of these classes than possible. Which translated into redneck for you barners means: Your boys didn't actually TAKE the course. Just received credit for taking it.
