1. Remember how Jarvus Landry was on kick coverage in '11? KB will be that kind of player.

  2. One of the things Cam is working on, down field blocking. If you're not the receiver/ball carrier, you're a blocker. We use to do this well, NFL scouts use to like the down field blocking by the WR's. Bowe, Buster Davis, Michael Clayton, etc.

  3. That trend quickly seemed to disappear once Lafell left.. Toliver and others didn't quite give the same punch with their downfield blocking that Bowe, Clayton, Devery, etc used to which sprung a lot of our long runs.

  4. Great point. Lafell, Bowe, and Clayton were 3 of best blocking WR LSU has ever had IMO.

  5. Those receivers were the reason we could run so many WR screens and long runs to the outside. Seems like all our runs now are either inside the tackles or pitches to the outside.

  6. agree, it would be a great lift. LSU must block cleanly.

  7. Agree with the past 5 posts about wide receivers blocking downfield, but wondering what that has to do with the possibility that linebacker Kendall Beckwith will be a special teams demon?
  8. These threads seem to drift from time to time, many times, its my fault.

  9. You always give great insight and I have tremendous amount of respect for your perspective on all things football. I personally enjoy the wide spectrum of conversation as it simply flows from one good point to another.

I'm stoked to see Beckwith perform. LSU's special teams have really been quite spectacular in recent years and the fact so many talented kids come in and sometimes the only way they get to see the field is special teams. Particularly so in the infant stage of each season. Make a difference in the kicking and return game and you'll increase your stock in just about every category. Versatility and front line talent being placed in the third and often overlooked phase of the game. Landry was a great example. Jarvis was behind early in practice so he simply went out and made an impression on special teams coverage. That kind of versatility also translates really well to the pros.

  10. Thanks, checks in the mail.

So true, look at Danny Mc with Dallas, his Special Teams play is what got him started in the NFL. Remember this, the former LSU player who has the most years on a team now in the NFL, Ryan Clark. He was a UDFA out of LSU and played the first 6 games all on Special Teams. Look at him now and what he does.
