I believe that Miles is a good coach, not a great coach, but he knows how to recruit, makes good hires (atleast it looked that way in preseason, let's wait & see), and knows how to be a good general manager that will lead this team & allow the assistants to do their jobs.

I don't think Saban was a great coach either. He lost games he should have won. He didn't win national championships regularly as some here might think. But what he did was recruit well, have good defensive schemes, brought some alum money into the program & got LSU to vastly improve the facilities - these things he was great at. He was no Lombardi, no Bear, not even a Spurrier. He was not successful because of his game day coaching, he was successful because of what he brought to this program. I believe that Miles is more than capable of doing that.

Unfortunately, fans like Ramah are the people who pull programs down. Firing coaches after 2 games, which he would have liked to do, is the WORST thing an athletic program can do - it's shooting themselves in the foot. No coach wants to go to a program like that. The downfall of good programs is usually because of unreasonable expectations.

You are correct, but to a lot of fans, there can not be any team better than your team. If not LSU is not #1 then they are less of a man.

    Bravo!

    Excellent post.

...and yes you are exactly right, it's childish fans like Dramah Queen that can bring a program down.

You're right, they're not the same. That's why it's called an analogy. One involves a car, the other involves people. But I didn't make it up, it's just what people have been saying about Miles ever since he was hired (about being handed the keys). If you've got a more insightful analogy I'm all ears.

 Good coaches don't blow 24-0 leads ... notice I said 24-0, because a good coach would have had LSU up 24-0 against TN at the half. A good coach wouldn't have allowed LSU to drop back into the same piss poor coverage that toasted it for 400+ yds passing the week before. Before I summarily dismiss you as the pie-in-the-sky fool that you are, I'll continue and have a few more hee-haws, this is too good.[/QUOTE]

Conflicting statements ... a sign of cornfusion on your part.

I think you want us to "wait and see here" ... Can't really understand your point, if there even is one.

    :crystal:

Yeah, I see your point ... the man who took LSU from ashes to a NC in a few short years ... pumped life back into Tiger Stadium, again making it the most feared place in America to play (LSU WAS 7-0 there in his last year as coach ... It's mid-october and we've yet to win a game there with LESS SMILES) ... Saban brought LSU from a middle of the pack SEC team to the dominant position in the conference ... a man who brought LSU recruiting from a "couldn't fence Louisiana off or recruit New Orleans" to #1 ranked classes in February ... a man who ended Alabama's ownership of Tiger Stadium (we'll see if they stake a new claim here next year with Less Smiles) ... a man voted AP Coach of the Year (when's the last time any LSU coach earned that)

Yeah, Saban wasn't a "great" coach ... for once I agree with you ...

    Great doesn't describe Saban

It does tell me a lot about you and posters like you who try to diminish Saban's accomplishments ... You know nothing about LSU FB or our history.

Thanks for saying Saban recruited "well" (proves my previous point)
Thanks for saying Saban had "good" defensive schemes (proves my previous point)

More insipid comparisons. He "IS" Nick Saban, the best coach LSU ever had. You dare to mention Lombardi ... you got it coming ... in quotes.

We'll see. I never saw Saban melt down and "lose it" like Les did against Tennesee, letting his defense get punked for an entire half. Yeah, LSU dees gave up big plays, but Saban made gametime adjustments this coach hasn't done thus far.

Yeah, we should all be fans JUST LIKE PARSO ...

Let's have Parso's post and the following words etched in bronze below the 2004 Crystal for future generations to see ... Nick Saban was not a great coach, but a good one who recruited well and had good defensive schemes.

And the failure to attain one's potential is usually because people like Parso will give it the "old college try" and settle for LESS ...

Just to ram it home ONE MORE TIME ... :hihi: ... some Lombardi for you!

If you'll not settle for anything "LESS" than your best, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish in your lives. Winning isn't everything--but wanting to win is. Men respond to leadership in a most remarkable way and once
you have won his heart, he will follow you anywhere.

Those were the words of one Vince Lombardi. I could have sworn that these were the tenets of the Saban era, the golden age of LSU FB, where the hearts and minds propelled LSU to greatness.

Let her rip ... she's ripping now ... hemmorrhaging ... The Gators can deal the Golden Age of LSU FB a "knockout blow" Saturday. :cuss:

I say fans like myself that keep the fires stoked and the pressure on ... TO WIN ... mean more to a struggling program than those who sit back and are willing to settle for Less Smiles.

LSU FB is bigger than Les Miles. If he can't hack it as a coach here, he's got to go ... sooner than later.

There are plenty of "good" coaches out there. LSU deserves a GREAT COACH ... like the one we lost.

When i was in college we had a lead at Southeastern of 31-7 with 3:00 left in the third quarter. We lost 50-47 . Does that mean we had a coach that sucked.

A few years later that Coach led us to the 1AA Championship.

I guess if Ramah had his way our coach would have never had the chance.

(Personally, I don't remember him saying this, but if he did, Props to ramah..... But.... I think he probably edited any post of his that turned out wrong.)

LSU has turned the corner ... a while back ... and this could very well be the most exciting year for LSU since 1958.

LSU had the #3 Recruiting Class in 2001

LSU had another decent class in 2002, ranked 18th, where most needs were filled.

LSU won the mythical Recruiting National Championship this year.

It's past time to begin reaping the harvest of Coach Saban & staff's hard work. LSU should be favored to win in every game they play, even against Auburn. A couple of good breaks and an unbeaten season and SEC Championship are very possible, with LSU in a BSC or National Championship BCS game. Many folks are just too quick to write off this team.
