You can look back and find coaches who did great things with their programs yet at one time blew a 21 pt lead. I say 21 points because I don't think it was entirely Miles fault that we didn't get the field goal to end the half - the refs were supposed to give him time to set up & didn't. I believe that was very easily a mistake most coaches, including Saban, could have made.

I believe Miles has made some very good hires. Most people agreed with me during the preseason. After the first two games, most people would say Pellini is horrible (which I completely understand), but now Pellini is looking much better and I still believe he was a good hire - we will wait & see by the end of the season whether I am right.

Plenty of good coaches have done great things. It doesn't take a great coach to bring a program back to life. It takes a good coach who can do all the things I mentioned, which Saban did.

Then you must have shielded your eyes for last year's Georgia game, because not only did our Dee get punked for an entire half, but an entire game.

Bullsh*t. If Les fails to get it together in 2 years, he's gone. There's a difference between giving coaches a chance & accepting mediocrity.

LSU deserves a GREAT coach... what about all those other programs that think they deserve a great coach? As great as we think LSU is, it isn't the end all be all to football & we aren't entitled to anything.

Saban wasn't a great coach before he got here - he was a good coach that LSU made look great.

Back to the embarrassment issue. I'm not an LSU coach, but I was sure as hell embarrassed every time someone asked me "What happened to LSU. We thought they were winning.” (After the Tennessee game). Etc.

WHAT?????? LSU was barely on the football map when Saban arrived and was considered one of the top programs in the nation when he left.

Nope. I said Saban wasn't a great coach originally. I still say that, except I say that LSU made him LOOK great. Looking great & being great are completely different.

Because of what Saban did while he was here - the things I pointed out, recruiting, improving facilities etc. Those are the reasons he left behind a top program - not because of his game day coaching. LSU was the perfect school for a coach like him - fertile recruiting grounds with a fan base yearning for success & willing to foot the bill. That's how LSU made Saban look great.

Years ago there was a game between ND/USC where ND was seriously kicking butt. Like 28-30/ nothing. USC took the second half kickoff 100+ yds. Then kicked ND butt in a run away. (by the way---Gary D'Nardo was on the ND team. ENOUGH SAID

Just in case you haven't noticed those things are a HUGE part of college coaching and being a good/great coach. Saban came here with little talent and huge losses in total numbers of players on the team and quickly brought the program to the top. You can't separate all the things that coaches are responsible for when judging their ability and performance it's a whole package deal. Saban did an unbelievable job of bringing LSU fom the depths of football hell to the top of the mountain. Saying he isn't a good gameday coach is one thing but saying he wasn't a good coach and that LSU made him look like he was is totally different.
