THE GOOD This is a strong-finishing second-half team. We have to be like this in SEC play. Darrell Williams may be the best freshman running back right now. Team speed on defense really showed itself. This is looking like an old-time LSU dominating defense. The defensive line is more solid. Godchaux is looking like a player. For the third week, LSU proved deeper and in better shape in the second half than their opponents. This will not always happen in the SEC. Even with a significant injury, Dural is a serious downfield threat. Keehn punted for 48 yards a pop. High, unreturnable punts. Fournette can return kickoffs very well. THE BAD This is a weak-starting first half team. We can't be like this in SEC play. Jennings had decent stats but he never looked comfortable out there. He hesitated on his passes and scattered them. ULM stacked the box with defenders and stuffed the run in the first half and LSU did not make them pay for it. LSU must learn how to sustain drives. Dropped passes are starting to happen again . . . Can anybody play tight end on this team? Fournette is a big, fast, good-looking running back . . . but he is not the next Hershel Walker. The referees were not particularly good to us. The pass rush is still disappointing. THE UGLY The highly touted LSU offensive line is big and strong but they are not a dominating line. They are not playing smart. I expected Coach Grimes to have this unit at peak efficiency but it looks like just another underperforming Studrawa line right now. The screen pass is butt ugly. LSU cannot screen. They look like slapstick comedy whenever they try.
The OL worries me, especially with young QB's. The defensive fronts going forward will be much better. Watched the VT game yesterday and saw the OL that Grimes built look much like the LSU OL. I don't think the problem is lack of talent. I sure hope Grimes can get them going.
NCAA stats for week three. Out of 133 FBS schools LSU is . . . #1 in pass efficiency defense #2 in scoring defense #3 in pass defense #3 in total defense #31 in rushing defense #1 in passing yards per completion #7 in passing efficiency #36 in rushing offense #40 in scoring offense #56 in total offense #90 in passing offense #9 in net punting #17 in kickoff returns #23 in turnover margin #59 in punt returns #65 in fewest penalties per game #10 in time of possession #31 in team sacks #36 in tackles for loss It's still early in the season for statistical validity . . . but Passing Offense and Penalties look like early LSU weak points.
We will have a good test vs Mississippi State in terms of pass defense. Dak Prescott is a solid QB enjoying a great start to his season (232 ypg, 9 TDs, 2 Ints). His biggest weapon may be his legs, as he has rushed for nearly 300 yards and 2 TDs. In fact, he is their leading rusher (if you negate the stupid NCAA stat that a sack goes against your rushing yardage).
Please explain why this is bad? The dude is legit. Further, HW had 274 rushing attempts his freshman year. LF7 is on pace for 130........
After all that hype LF looks like just another good RB and not like Adrian Peterson or Hershel Walker. So far he doesn't even look kike the next Kevin Faulk or Dalton Hilliard. Very good but so far I don't see the greatness
Uh, so we rag on the O'line which is an integral part of a running game, but ALREADY label this kid a bust from RIDICULOUS preseason hype after THREE games.... Seems legit.
