WRONG! The right thing was to go for it. He made the right call. If he had to do it again, I promise you he would do the same thing.
Why would he have a sense of urgency? pete expected the refs to bail him out because usc is the greatest team of all time. usc was preordained to win that game, something went terribly wrong last night.
Bill Simmons, a columnist for ESPN Page 2, has a great article about the game. He basically calls Pete Carroll the Fredo Corleone of coaching. Great read, check it out.
Nothing personal fellas. I hate USC as much as anyone here. But saying USC is overrated is a mistake. They'd be overrated if UT clobbered them like we did Miami. Yeah, we hate USC, and they suck, and I'm delighted, ECSTATIC that they lost. But give them some credit. I don't care WHAT conference your in. 45 out of 47 games is just hard to do.
Did anyone else happen to catch the huge grin Petey had on his face just before the 3rd & 5 play on the final series?
It's just how he is I guess? Someone else have it recorded? Take a quick look at that part of the game.
I thought Pete made a good call to go for it. If someone asked told you that all you had to do was get a two yard run and you were the National Champion, most people would take it. Considering how dominant USC had been that half, they should have gone for it. I hate USC as much as the next guy, but no way is Pete Carroll an overrated coach. He turned an average team into a national powerhouse very quickly.
