What is it with you and stats? Strength of schedule, just because as a Pac-12 Duck fan, you havent experienced one tough weekend after the next and realized that it does indeed alter what the box scores says, doesnt mean it doesnt exist. I'm sorry, but you will never win that debate with any SEC fan until you play a schedule of games, in a conference as strong as ours - PERIOD Go ahead, put up all the stats in the world, but as long as you continue to have to face that SEC team in the biggest game of the year, BCSNCG, your season long box score busters and highlights DONT MEAN JACK!
WHO SAID 3 & OUTS??? Can you Read??? I said prevent first downs, that doesnt mean 3 and outs. Get over yourself and your teams speed, there are PLENTY of athletes JUST AS FAST! COMPLEX ISSUES!!!!!!
When Oregon or any other PAC school starts playing schedules where 3/4 of your opponents rank in the top 25 then brag about your stats, but playing PAC cupcakes, with no real defensive skills tends to blur your stats and doesn't reflect the real skill of your offensive or defensive units. You'll see a much more ferocious and skilled defense when you meet the tigers in the season opener.
I will admit that Oregon was a lot of fun to watch last year, and is a very fast & powerful team who DID put up some very impressive statistics, but they played ONE ranked team last year. Then played Auburn and lost. I am not saying that, that gives or takes anything away from Oregon as a team, I still believe they are very good and in my opinion based on the talent on their roster and with what Chip has done, worth a Top 5 ranking. But their stats do not mean anything to me in terms of who they can and can’t beat. Because after all, there IS a reason that they play the games.
You know, I had an entire post typed out and ready to go, but I realized, no matter what I post, and what proof/facts I present, you'll just keep on going with the same "We're the SEC, that's why" attitude. it seems you're not willing to except that Oregon has a great defense. I've come to terms with that, and I'm moving on from this argument. I just hope that LSU's coaching staff has similar views towards Oregon's defense (of course I know that they'll respect it). Go Ducks!
No one said Oregon didn't have a good defense, but to call it "great" when you only play one ranked team does not make it so. Look at LSU, this season we have 8/12 ranked top 25 teams on our schedule... Most seasons we play numerous top 25 teams so our defensive stats aren't inflated due to a weak schedule... When your ducks can survive through a schedule like ours, and your defensive stats are where ours are... Then we can legitimately say your defense is "great",
Well Im glad you decided to back off, because after all, I didnt come into your Forum and say my team was going to win based on the fact that "I Personally" thought they were better. If you read my last post, I actually give quite a bit of respect to Oregon, its team(Including Defense) its power, its speed, and its coaches. All in all, I am by no means underestimating what Oregon brings, I actually do respect them, I am just not buying into stats and box scores. And the whole "We are the SEC" bit, it speaks for itself in BCSNCG Wins. We do play in a very tough conference and I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that if the Ducks played our schedule, they would post the same statistics. LSU has their hands full with you guys, and not once I have you heard anything from MOST LSU fans say that we dont, or that we are faster, stronger, smarter, in better shape, or any such nonsense. Just pipe down a little bit, show a little bit more respect of what talent we bring to the field and we can have some decent debates.
You've made your point pretty clear. PAC12 newbie Utah, and their fans are hearing the same thing from us. hopefully, in the coming year the Duck's and the rest of the PAC will earn some SEC repect.
You have my respect. - I am not taking anything away from the Ducks, after all their QB & RB are from Texas But, all we are saying, is stats are just that, stats. Stats dont win games. I like Oregon, the stats are impressive, but they dont tell me that it makes them a better team pound for pound or that they are fatser, stronger, or better. And, If you beat LSU, trust me, it wont be your Stats that I am impressed with.
We're amidst the slow times. Right now stats is about all there is to talk about. I think we're all chomping at the bit, impatient to get the ball rolling. When camps open, things should become more and more interesting. Go Ducks
