1. I hate snakes. I have no idea why I click on this link. I'm out.
  2. I have seen six different species of snake in my yard. I have seen garter snake, a speckled king snake, a cotton mouth (dead), a rat snake, a blue runner (some people call em blue racers), and an earth snake.

The earth snake was pretty neat. I was digging for worms to feed my turtle, and I actually thought the snake was a worm. When I picked ut up it wasn't slimey. That is when I noticed the tiny eyes and mouth. I looked it up in my field guide, and learned that they are rarely seen because they mainly stay underground, so I felt lucky to get to handle the little guy.

  4. The worm snake and the rough earth snake are pretty similar looking. I'll have to feature them soon.

  8. I've caught a speckeled king and garter snake in the yard. I've seen a lot of other snakes ... copperhead, rat snake, etc. (we live near the rural life museum). Last fall we had a moccasin in the garage holed up in a corner. I shot it with a 22. Missed its head and hit it's belly. Out popped a bunch of little snakes. The thing was looking for a place to give birth.
  9. Holy crap! What did you do w/ the little bastids?
  10. They were too immature to live. They all died right next to mom. The place stunk for a few days. Had to lysol it down a few times.
