My head is hurting and I'm still pissed from last nights game. What I'm reading is not making me feel any better. We get out played and out coached plain and simple. Both teams had over a month to game plan for the opponent. The Clemson coaches used their time to develop a game plan that resulted in almost 450 yards TO and a 13 minuted edge in TOP. Their defensive staff put together a plan that resulted in more 3 and outs than I can remember. Les is getting his ass raked over the coals on LSU message boards and rightfully so. If he can't see that changes need to be made in our offensive philosophy and coaching staff then it's time for our inept AD to demand that he make the changes.
Look at the 3rd down conversion rate for the offense during those games. Correlate that to the number of plays the defense was on the field. You end up with a lot of time on the field for the defense. It doesn't matter how deep or how good they are. Eventually it catches up with them and the dam breaks in the 4th quarter. Also, Clemson has a very good offense.
Defensively, we stopped the run pretty well. But pass defense sucked, particularly in regards to the secondary. The receivers were wide open every time. I am not if the secondary is simply not doing their job or is that the way the plays are being called. Either way something has to change.
The defense absolutely collapsed, beginning with about 1min left vs bama. The coverage against the last 4 QBs was non-existent, the tackling was dreadful, and we gave up countless, long 4th down conversions. I have no idea why it happened, but it was one of the most precipitous collapses by any unit that I've ever seen. Starting to wonder if Corey Raymond was a good hire...
Ask Tennessee how that's worked out, they only just now finished paying Fulmer's buyout. LSU would have to have some secret pile of money alongside the top secret playbook to pull that off and hire a top college coach demanding top money. A mediocre AD like Alleva didn't have much leverage to begin with, but he pissed away whatever he had left.
Right. It was not the defense last night. Not when the offense can't get a first down and give the D a rest. 100 defensive plays vs 48 offensive plays. And, your top offensive player only touches the ball 12 times. 3 passes when you are trying to run out the clock, 2 of which are on downs w/only 2 yards for a first, and a guy he only touched the ball 12 times so far and is averaging 11 yards per touch. that's all coaching decisions and offensive execution in my mind. give a good offense like Clemson enough touches and they will eventually execute some plays. 100 vs 48. That's crazy. That was the problem, not the defensive effort. Get a friggin' first down offense.
