I still HATE the new logo. Too busy, too expensive, where did the black come from? Where did the kitty cat come from? I cant wait till it is done away with.
not the designer's fault Although I don't like the logo either, its high cost and its lack of originality isn't the fault of the designer. I know a graphic designer who does work for LSU and I was told that the people who were in charge of hiring a designer and okaying the logo insisted upon being involved every step along the way and in fact actually made their own multiple changes. They did not take the professional's opinion but had the designers sit there with all of them in the meeting and literally change the logo as they made revisions. So no wonder it's a big piece of junk and also no wonder it cost so much, because there were too many amateur cooks in charge. Typical of the way the place used to be run--the Board of Supervisors who know nothing always have to get their own personal way in things. Thank goodness Emmert has wrested away from them the very important stuff like hiring coaches and AD's. I'll bet the logo DOES get scrapped--we're a laughing stock in the graphics design industry right now.
What they didn't do was get some input from the public. A few "sneak previews" and would have known the logo was a dog and never would have released it. There ARE rumors that it will be replaced in the near future. They may use the NC as an excuse for an overhaul. Most folks like the special LSU typeface, it will probably be kept.
I've realized that my favorite logo is one that we already have: the eye of the tiger on the 50 yard line. Saban's windbreaker this fall had that icon on the back and I think it looked AWESOME. I'd be real interested to see some ideas for something using the Eye as the central logo theme, maybe with the new typefaced LSU below it. It's purple and gold, it's intimidating, it's 100% LSU.. and it's different than anything anyone else has got. I think we should emphasize the fact that our team HAS the eye of the tiger!
Good idea Laminator. I talked to a guy who paints the field at Tiger Stadium this fall before a class. As we spoke, on a Wednesday, the field was being painted for Saturday's game. However, the Eye at midfield, he said was copyrighted and that only a certain group could paint it. I was under the impression that others, besides the LSU field crew, painted the eye. Anyone know? The Eye certainly is intimidating.
There is a company selling gear on the web with "Geaux" over the eye of the tiger ALA Tiger Stadium logo... I have forgotten the URL... The gear looks pretty cool, though...
I dont like the "Geaux" logo...Instead of having Geaux it needs to say LSU or Tigers. My favorite is the LSU tigers script. I say bring it back!
