Pete carried a basketball almost everywhere he went as a young man. They say in high school his friends would drive around town slowly and Pete would dribble out the window.

Jacob is a talent, he's around town all the time doing these. I saw him a while back at the Wine Loft Perkins Rowe. He was doing a few on canvas.

I think he dribbled out of the window of his father's station wagon! Anyway, he did many things with a basketball that no one had ever done before.

Typical North Carolina B-baller. We got those guys coming out our ears!

OK, settle down, he was truly awesome. I hate to admit it, but I even listened to some LSU B-ball when Pete Maravich was playing.

That 11 minute youtube clip was awesome. There's no better feeling than leading a fast break and dishing to your teammate for a layup/dunk. If a split second reaction to the defense ends up making that pass something fancy like Pete could do over an over again, even better.

It's those off-balance loop and hook shots that get me. I mean, nobody makes those shots.

Some of them are similar to moves you see these days. Others have never been attempted in the NBA. Only in games of horse.

Back in the 70's one season when CBS had the NBA contract they hosted a Horse tournament, showing the competition at halftime of the weekly national game. Pistol won it of course. Here's one of his games:
