The police showed up following up on a call about Jefferson's incident with someone at the gate earlier. Tyrann gave the police consent to enter and search. Either's he's just stupid for letting them enter without a warrant or he didn't know the weed was stashed there.

I don't think just smelling what you think is marijuana is cause to enter a residence. That's just what happens in the movies/television. You have to have some cause such as knowing there is a known drug dealer there or suspecting that there are drugs there and hearing what you believe to be the occupants destroying the evidence. There's a case from Kentucky or Tennessee with a ruling on this. I'm pretty sure it requires more than just the smell because there are a lot of things that can smell like weed that's perfectly legal to own.

This was in Baton Rouge. What, do we have a bunch of Bama fans as cops around here or something?

Such a huge commotion over a little more than 1/2 oz of herb with a value of between $100 - $200. In many cities around the country this won't even get you arrested.

Good enough reason for me to enter the residence ... :)

While I don't doubt this, unfortunately, LSU is under the microscope right now. We have to deal with the problem around this football team and can't just point to how it is happening all over the country. I know you were not advocating that we should use that as an excuse, I'm just stating that it's something LSU should not do.

    b_leblanc That's just my game...

If they had a warrant they would not have needed to ask for permission to search. A judge will not grant a warrant for small fries.

Why should LSU in particular be under the microscope when Urban Meyer was running a penal colony at Florida during his time there and the integrity of his program was never called into question? This is an unfortunate situation for the guys involved and doesn't do us any PR favors, but let's please keep this in perspective and not buy into the media histrionics.

I'm almost cetain that it isn't. There has got to be more to the story. There had to have been reason for the police to believe pot was in the house BESIDES simply smelling what they think may have been weed. Digging through a dresser suggest a much more exhustive search than what would be necessary for simply smelling pot. Besides, no human nose on earth can ever be 100% certain he/she is smelling actual marijuana. As stated earlier, there are lots of things out there that are perfectly legal that smell close enough to weed that the human sence of smell could not, with 100% certainty, distinguish as actual marijuana.

What I'm trying to get at with all my posts is: There must be more to the story than what is being reported. Due to "intergrity of police investigations", by nature there always is when dealing with shady things like drug using/dealing. Alleged drug dealing, btw.
