Carpenter was a war hero too, in Viet Nam. Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (only the Medal of Honor is higher, I think) for calling in a napalm strike on his own position to keep from being overrun. Retired as a 3-star general.
Doesn't everybody who gets injured get a bronze star? In an episode of M*A*S*H Major Burns put in for one because of some frivolous boo boo like cutting his finger while opening a scalpel.
medalsofamerica.com says the order is Medal of Honor, followed by the DSC, Navy Cross and Air Force Cross (all 3 considered equal), then the Silver Star.
I am a stat fanatic and there are times when I see certain things and just say to myself hey has this ever been done before and this is one of those circumstances. I had to research it all myself, took me about 30-45 minutes.
Air Force had an awesome wide receiver. Not sure I remember, but something like Ernie Jennings. I’m sure he was all-American. I have addressed the 1970 Navy - Air Force game at RFK on this forum before. Navy won the pregame but Jennings and Air Force won the game, big time.
