Nice. I knew Joe well. Very interesting fellow. He held the major league single game total base record (4 HRs and a 2B) for 48 years until it was broken in '02 by Shawn Green (4 Hrs, 2B, 1B). He is also credited with being the only player to hit a ball out of Ebbets Field. He also hit a ball that landed on the roof of the Polo Grounds. He showed me that ball once, it still had roof tar on it. Because of his baseball fame, many overlook the basketball success he had at LSU.
That is pretty impressive. I did some research on Auburn players and we only have 28 that have made it. LSU baseball has been around about 40 years longer, but most of the players were not from the early timeframe anyway, so I can't use that argument. There have been some good players come through Baton Rouge, but the teams have been even better than the individual components.
