I have no problem agreeing the SEC runs a tad deeper than most conferences, but I certainly don't see the dominance that get proclaimed. Who are you dominating? The Big Ten had a run in the '70's through much of the 1980's where Michigan & Ohio State won so much that the "Big Two, Little Eight" got coined. The SEC could have been the Big 1 and little whatever back in the Bear days. Georgia and Auburn made most the noise in the '80's, Florida in the Spurrier years with appearances by Bama & Tennessee. The Big Ten is living down Michigan this year. Even they are playing better, but who cares... the damage is done. The computers can't even figure out how to register wins and losses now, regardless of how Michigan plays. It is what it is and I have no problem with the "pitiful" Big Ten this year. All I know is we generally have five or six teams that can play with anybody, so knock them all you want. We'll go to our bowls; we'll win some and lose some, just like you; plenty of close games either way. Hey, if the friggen Golden Gophers, who along with Indiana is the only team not to win or tie for the Big Ten title in the past 20 years, can limp down here and beat Bama or Arkansas in the lowliest of bowls, I feel pretty safe in questioning this "dominance" thingy.
BC looks like it can run the table. Despite playing on the road....those ACC teams are as weak as Va Tech if not weaker.Kansas will more than likely lose in the BIG 12 championship versus Oklahoma/Oregon could run the table the rest of the way, but UCLA poses as the biggest obstacle. It really depends on which UCLA team is going to show up.Ohio State/Michigan is a toss up!In the end.....it could be LSU/Oklahoma/Oregon. I could be wrong but then again, that's why they play the games.
Im gonna have to somewhat agree with Hawker here. I dont think our #3 - #6 teams have shown in the last few years they are that much better than the Big 11 or Big 12 teams in that range. The SEC record vs those leagues in the bowls are pretty even. I do think we end up a little better at the top(IE: last year Florida and LSU) and deeper at the bottom of the bowl eligible teams. (IE: Big 11 couldnt even fill their bowl tie-ins last year) I think we play a more competative brand of football and top to bottom we are deeper and more talented than all the other conferences. As far as bowl teams go, our top is VERY good and usually better than the other conferences but our middle is the same while our bottom tier is a little better. If that makes any sense.
Pretty much I guess. I guess I could start a thread with some poll I made up too. 1. LSU 2. Florida 3. Auburn 4. Georgia 5. South Carolina 6. Kentucky 7. Tennessee 8. Alabama 9. Ole Miss 10. Miss State 11. Arkansas 12. Vanderbilt 13. the rest of the NCAA teams in the country.:thumb:
But if VT wins out, BC will have to play them again in the ACC championship and Clemson's no pushover. I'd pick them to drop a game before tOSU.
Ohio States schedule is a damn farce, there's noway they should be number with that schedule. If they did have a loss with that schedule they would be ridiculed because outside of Purdue there's not a decent team on it to this point. You could make a case for Penn State I suppose.
Just goes to show you what everyones said for years...from top to bottom the SEC "is" the toughest conference in the nation. Only problem is we keep beating the hell outa each other. BTW...little note here. They way I heard it was Florida State was invited to join the SEC and Bowden wanted "no" part of that. Granted, it may just have just been a rumor some "Gator" fan kicked up years ago, but it makes sense. I dont think Fl St would have gotten those NC's had they chose to "join" up. :tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye:
