There are ways around the rule, but getting around the rule usually means you're out there tailgating by yourself. My group still does it, though. We are usually set up for a 7pm game no later than 10am. We're not as hard core as you guys, but trust me when I say that 8 hours out in the 115-110 degree heat is about the limit one can take.

Can't be worse than 8 hours in 90-95 degrees with 80% humidity.

It doesn't seem like it would be worse, but it is. I am origially from St. Louis and we have plenty of those 95 degree, 80% humidity days. It really isn't the temperature here, it is the sun. It wears you out.

I'm not sure why the sun is so draining, but it can really beat you down. Plus, we don't have many trees to provide some shade. Trying to get shade from a cactus proves kinda difficult.

My girlfriend is originally from here, but has lived in Phoenix for a couple of years. She always contends that it is worse here because for one, your sweat actually works the way it's supposed to in a dry environment. Here, it just produces more and more sweat that eventually just soaks your body and the clothes that happen to be on it. She also noted that in AZ, you could actually get relief in the shade because there was a distinguishable temperature difference. That's certainly not the case here. But you said ya'll don't have many trees out there so I guess it doesn't matter.

On a side not, I've not spent any significant amount of time in Mizzou, but I seriously doubt that you can compare the humidity down here to the humidity up there. Down here, we have water all around, below, and often above us. So there's not really that many places for it to go. The result is incredibly stagnant and perpetually sticky, muggy air.

I am from St louis as well. Trust me, there is no comparison to the Heat/Humidity here and there.

I just went there on vacation in July. I was in Heaven for a whole week, and it was in the mid 90's every day.

Most of the midwest isn't comparable, but St. Louis is a little different. The city is surrounded by water, too. It sits at the confluence of three rivers (Mississippi, Missouri, and I forget the one that hits just north from the Illinois side) and there many marshy areas and floodplains. The 95 degree, 80% humidity day is very regular there.

Your girlfriend is right about getting into the shade in AZ. There is a major difference. The problem is there just isn't much shade. So, if you're tailgating all day, you're most likely out in the sun for much of it. The sun just beats you down.

But the mere fact that STL is so much further inland prevents the seemingly constant flux of tropical activity that we experience here. Plus, our soil, being extremely fine-grained and largely composed of river sediments/organic material, experiences a severe amount of adsorption. It's just one of those things that happens as you approach the delta.

Okay, Louisiana weather is worse than St. Louis. Just please trust me that you don't want to be out in the Tempe sun for long stretches. If you're going to tailgate, please bring some sort of shade provider.

uscpuke, good to hear you'll be at the happy hour. It's going to be fun!
