If all of these were 1st overall here is how I rank the pick

    Bradshaw - Win
    Plunkett - Win
Bartkowski - Steve? Did he play for the Seahawks? Freaking lose just for being a seahawk. 1st overall, GTFOH
    Elway Win
    Testaverde Turd
Aikman Win but wouldn't have taken him 1st overall
Jeff George Lose, nowhere near worthy of 1st overall selection
Bledsoe Lose, nowhere near worthy of 1st overall selection
    P. Manning Win
    Couch Bust
Vick Lose, nowhere near worthy of 1st overall selection
Carr Lose, nowhere near worthy of 1st overall selection
Palmer Lose, nowhere near worthy of 1st overall selection
Eli Tricky, can't call 2 SB wins a bust or a lose, guess he is okay
Alex Smith Lose, nowhere near worthy of 1st overall selection
    JaMarcus Russell Turd
Matt Stafford, Good but not 1st overall good
Sam Bradford Lose, nowhere near worthy of 1st overall selection
Cam Newton There aren't words to express my hate for this monkey so I will just pretend like his name isn't here. LOSE
Luck This one the jury is out on, could be special, looks to be special. He can't do it by himself.

So out of that list there are 4 that I think are 1st overall pick material and that is shaky. It was a different game back then and some of it I'm basing off of lore and not actually seeing them play so there is that. The number could very well be 2. P. Manning and J. Elway.

Testaverde and Bledsoe had decent and lengthy careers. Not hallworthy but respectable. Cowboys got their money's worth with Aikman. Three superbowlsare worth a #1 any day. Palmer might have been worth it if he had stayed healthy but you can't foresee that.

Like him or hate him but where would the Panthers be without him?

And Bartkowski was a Falcon. Beat the Saints twice on last second hail Mary's

Ok fine, but 1st overall is just a huge jumble fuck. The risk/reward is too often heavily favored to the risk. Especially if you pick QB. If I'm a GM I'd never do it unless it was an Elway or a Montana...oh wait.

Bottom line too many other positions much easier to evaluate that can swing that reward to your favor and time has proven that as important as QB is, you can find really good ones in the later rounds.

Price for Rivers reportedly at least two first rounders
    [IMG]
(Photo: Denny Medley, USA TODAY Sports)

Philip Rivers trade rumors have been bouncing around for a while, but we're starting to get a better idea of what the San Diego Chargers want in return.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Live on Tuesday that it would take two first-round draft picks -- maybe more -- for the Chargers to part with their long-time starting quarterback.

Two teams have a pair of first-round selections in the upcoming draft: Cleveland (Nos. 12 and 19) and New Orleans (Nos. 13 and 31). With Drew Brees in place for two more seasons and apparently not on the trade block, the Saints aren't likely to want Rivers.

However, it's no secret the Browns have issues at quarterback, and Rivers would certainly be an immediate fix for a team that has had at least two starting quarterbacks every year since Tim Couch was under center in 2001.

So while a trade involving Rivers, who has one year left on his contract, and the Browns would seem like a nice idea for Cleveland, it wouldn't appear to make much sense for San Diego.

Two picks in the top-20 doesn't sound bad, but it likely leaves the Chargers, who have made it clear they're very interested in Marcus Mariota, without a quarterback. The chances of Mariota dropping to No. 12 appear slim at best, so the Chargers would probably need to make another move to have the opportunity to draft the former Oregon quarterback or Jameis Winston.

The Rivers rumors will continue to fly and probably intensify as more details emerge and we draw closer to this month's NFL Draft.

    • NFL Films' Greg Cosell: I'd take Zach Mettenberger over Jameis Winston
      • [IMG]
Paul Kuharsky, ESPN Tennessee Titans reporter
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- NFL Films executive producer Greg Cosell recently spoke with an NFL scout who brought up Zach Mettenberger and Jameis Winston for comparison.

The scout said the Tennessee Titans' sixth-round pick from last season and the projected No. 1 pick in this draft are comparable.

      Cosell agreed.

In his weekly appearance on The Midday 180 on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville -- a show I help host -- Cosell said he’d take Mettenberger over Winston.

“Mettenberger and Winston are very, very similar in style of play,” Cosell said. "I’d argue Mettenberger is more advanced as an anticipatory thrower and has a little bit better arm.”

Quarterback evaluation is about assessing traits and attributes. Cosell said. The list of those includes how he does with drops and sets, how he reads defenses, his ability to throw with anticipation before a receiver is out of his break, whether he can throw people open and if he able to take a step right or left to avoid a rusher.

Running through those boxes, Cosell sees very similar quarterbacks.

We know Mettenberger’s stock dropped because of a knee injury in his final season at LSU and because of some off-field concerns.

Winston has off-field concerns, too. (I think most would say bigger concerns.)

But the big difference in the view of the Winston now and Mettenberger a year ago is that there are teams that view Winston as having the “it” factor that can lead to big plays at big moments, Cosell said.

Without doing the research on every position and the corresponding overall number one picks it is very hard to have a great feel for this argument. However that is a pretty damn good list of QB's.

Bartkowski just might have been one of the best ever if not for living up to his nickname of Peachtree Bart. The guy was legendary in Atlanta for being out on the town every night with a different babe on his arm. The NFL just wasn't the same as was when Hornung, Max McGee and those guys used to go out on the town the night before a game.

The Saints need to do a way better job on the draft this year, another one lake last year would kill them. They had one of the lower ratings last year. The NY Giants had the best, like one said, they could have stopped after OBJ and still would have gotten a great grade. To add, many of the former Tigers did well for their teams. USA Today Sports rates every player from last years draft. VAE are used, a positive rating means that a player exceeded expectations, a negative rating means a player failed to meet expectations. A 0.0 means they did what was need in the position picked...
    Former LSU Players:

    Trai Turner +3.0
    Ego Ferguson -1.7
    Jeremy Hill +7.3
    James Wright +0.2
    Lamin Barrow -0.3
    Alfred Blue +2.9
    Jarvis Landry +4.5
    OBJ +6.4
    Mett +1.9

Along the same lines, the Saints draft:
    Cooks +8.8
    Jean-Baptist -0.8
    Fortt -1.6
    Sunseri -0.9
    Powell -1.5
    Rooks +1.5

Notes: Rooks is no longer with the Saints, signed with Zona.
Fortt is now with the Jags.

How did Cooks get a higher rating than OBJ?

    Yeah, how did that happen?

Maybe because of what they expected of cooks? Does draft position factor in? Must be a glitch in the algorithm
