For my money, the best QB comparison for JR is Brett Favre. He has a cannon arm, reasonably good mobility, and a persistent desire to make plays happen. He's a daring, flamboyant quarterback on the field, but quiet and reserved off of it. He's like Brett Favre if Brett Favre was built like an offensive tackle (if JR wanted to, he could EASILY be a 325 pound tackle).

You will have to be patient with him, but don't get caught up in the "he can't read defenses" myth. He's just fine at reading defenses and finding the open receiver, at least at the slower-paced college level. It will be a big adjustment for him.

Honestly, because of his Brett Favre-like mentality, he's either going to be a great QB or he'll throw so many interceptions trying to make something happen that he'll be run out of the league. His "make something happen" mentality is both his greatest strength and his Achilles heel.

The key to JR's success is how well he is coached. He no doubt is the total package but still needs some work like all QB's who come into the NFL. His attitude to succeed is way above average as he showed at LSU. You have now have a cannon that can put the ball where ever it needs to go.

His weakness was always holding the ball too long. His gunslinger mentality got LSU into as many holes as he got us out of, so that's about a wash.

I'd say the first and last thing he needs to learn is how to hold the football when running it.
