this is what Mel Kiper said the other day:

“The highest-rated (LSU player for the Draft) is still Mingo,” Kiper said during a conference call. “He has not had the sacks or the tackles for loss that he had last year. But he can still close and has a tremendous burst.”

“He has tremendous potential as a pass rusher,” Kiper said. “He’ll get coached up in the NFL. He has real good versatility, being able to play up and down. He wasn’t dominant, but he has the talent to be that in the NFL.”

He said Mingo and Texas A&M junior Damontre Moore would be “in a battle” to see which is the top end if they choose to enter the draft.

“Sam Montgomery has had better numbers (than Mingo), but he doesn’t have the burst or athleticism of Mingo,” Kiper said. “Montgomery is a great college player. He might not be as good an NFL player because he doesn’t have that exceptional skill set.”

Kiper said he thought Logan “would be wise to return” to LSU. He said he had Minter rated as the No. 2 junior middle linebacker.
Simon has unusually good size (6-foot-3) for a cornerback, but Kiper said “another year would help him” as it would Reid.

Gotta disagree with this. Though, he has the raw skills, he doesn't have the ball or coverage skills to be a 3-4 OLB. He's also undersized for that position, though he's undersized for every position he's an option for. To clarify, I mean he won't do as well as a 3-4 OLB as he would as a 4-3 DE, not that he won't get picked as the former.

As for McShay's draft, no Barkley in the first round at all? What's he thinking?

he probably has Barkley the #2 QB behind Geno Smith, same as NFL Draft Scout... so if two teams decided to take a QB in the first round, Barkley would probably be 1st Round. Barkley doesn't have ideal height for a QB at 6-2, and his stock has been falling after USC lost three of their last four games with Barkley at QB (not including ND which Barkley missed)... during which time Barkley threw 9 INTs (2 in the L to Arizona, 2 in the L to Oregon, 3 in the W over ASU, and 2 in the L to UCLA)

Neither does Demarcus Ware, he will be an OLB in the NFL, best suited for a 3-4. Line him up all over the place and send him, maybe he drops off the LOS to fill a hole in a zone at the snap.

I can't see only 1 QB going in the first round. I think a team would absolutely take a shot at Barkley if he drops below 15. I know his stock has dropped, but he's the prototype teams look for. Big dude, good arm. I'd easily bet he's going in the 1st round, and I can't see him below 15. If Ryan Tannehill went top-10, Barkley won't make it out of the first round.

True, but DeMarcus Ware is 1 in a Million, which I wouldn't bet Mingo on being. Also Mingo is much smaller right now. He's much more comparable to a Dwight Freeney or Julius Peppers than he is a DeMarcus Ware or James Harrison. Smaller and weaker, but with great quickness and speed off the edge. He's also a little tall to rush from a two-point stance.

I'm picturing Mingo as a WLB in the Saints' 4-3. Don't know why; just do.

It just depends on what each team needs each year. Last year had an amazing rookie QB class, so this year there will be less teams that need QBs, which might explain Barkley not being there.

I would agree seeing as how he's been a DE his whole career. Never seen him really play coverage or roam consistently but it definitely doesn't mean he can't. Then again, he's probably more athletic than Roman Harper.....
