Yeah, obviously his coaching style has really hindered his past success. Tenn. is going to beat the crap out of UF b/c U. Meyer didn't know a couple of his players. For being so highly touted UM certainly doesn't know how to coach.
Is this why Miles has full contact practices which actually allow for the defensive players to follow through on their tackles and not just do touch tackles (like those which have been done over the past five years)? Does Miles want them to play all out in practice because he does not understand that competition amongst his players breeds competition on the field against opponents? Surely he understands this simple concept! Really, are you making stuff up? :dis:
Maybe folks have not been following Urban at Gainesville. He first arrived and met the players, said he knew all of them. then he walked the campus, visit the fraternity houses and tried mending fences. He was open to the media, especially the student paper. He is the player's coach, can't wait until spring drills. Then he says "I don't know who you are?" Come on, that statement does not fit in with the build up of his style and "friendliness".
Yes, but it's our duty, along with all other SEC fans, to remind them to adhere strictly to the "Coach - first/last initial" methodology. Hence, CUM will be his name from here on out.
I still refuse to believe anyone whose coaching mentor was Bob Davies is the hot s*** everyone says he is. UM might very well be an excellent coach for the Gators but I doubt he is going to bring them back to the level Spurrier had them at.
That is certainly taking the save bet. How many coaches in the world could take a team to the level Spurrier had the Gators. Although Meyer just might do it. The point here is Meyer was not a bad hire. Miles was also not a bad hire. You take the coaches out there that have been performing and hire one. Then sit back and see if he can perform in the big time college football league know as the SEC.
From the article it looks like Meyer is a little brash. Just a trifle rough. Miles a quite friendly guy. The main difference in the two handling situations differently is Miles is taking over a different situation as Meyer. Miles is following on the footsteps of an all time great coach who will be forever be respected and remembered in Baton Rouge. Most of his players are good, disciplined. The seniors ones have seen a NC game and won it under long odds. The players are loved in Baton Rouge. They have played under lights at tiger stadium. The players are also hurt and nervous to some extent. Most of them signed up to play for the great man and now he is gone. Miles needs to know his players well, reassure them and restore their confidence in themselves and in his leadership. If he has met each player personally and talked to their parents he has done an excellent job. But in future he needs to take charge and be himself. He needs to get out of Sabans shadow and not be afraid to take risks. We need to support him in that. Meyer on the other hand is taking over from a coach who had been nursing his players ever since SOS left. They are getting into trouble and not playing well on the field. He needs to whip them into shape. Beat up on them and get rid off the guys who will cause problems. He has to build his team. His job at Florida is more difficult not to withstand CPF at TN, CSOS at USc, CMR at GA are all brilliant. Bottomline is the situation at LSU is much better than at Florida. But one should note that these players, both at Florida and LSU, are kids in the 18-22 age group. They are physically strong and a few might be a little aggressive and some not so smart. They need mentoring and also a coach who will keep them on a short leash. A coach who is nice (Miles) might encounter discipline problems while a coach who instills fear (Meyer) might pressurize his players to perform better. Why Meyer might succeed.. 1. He is a great offensive mind. 2. He is Sabanesque in his demeanour. He is tough and a stern disciplinarian. 3. He is at Florida, the biggest school in the SEC and a state with great talent. Why he may fail... 1. He is in a tough sub-conference. TN, GA, SC/SOS wanting revenge on UF. 2. He still has not coached big league ball. Why Miles might succeed... 1. He inherits great talent. If he can win big this year, with his recruiting abilities he will always be able to outgun is oponents with talent. 2. He seems like a coach that can win without much talent. Which means he is good with Xs and Os and that means he is a good gameday coach. Why Miles might fail... 1. He is following the footsteps of the man who is widely considered as an alltime great coach and the greatest to ever step into Baton Rogue. Every game he looses, the fans will remember how Saban would do differently. Basically the same problem as Ron Zook. Failure is not an option for Miles at Baton Rouge. That might force him to be cautious and not be himself. 2. If he can not make his players fear him, discipline will be a problem and they might not give there best on game day. 3. He lacks the brilliant strategic thinking ability of Balicheck, Spurrier, Saban, Meyer etc and a coach which such ability is always a danger
Someone's gotta hold OVD"s hand as he enters new territory over there. May as well be that guy! :hihi:
