The great GT team with Varitek, Nomar, etc, did not play at the Box, but rather at the old Busch Challenge in 1992. Jacque Jones played on the 1994 USC team with Aaron Boone and some other really strong USC players.

The Rice team in 1995 had Cruz, Jr., Mark Quinn, Lance Berkman, and Matt Anderson, all major leaguers. The funny thing was that was before their ascension as a great program (Graham was only there for a year or two) and were beat by Cal St. Fullerton with Kotsay and Jeremy Giambi for the championship.

    Other greats:

    Dustin Hermanson
    Phil Nevin
David Delluci (should have been a Tiger)

    and others

Who did Hudson play for? I'm stunned that I don't remember him at the Box!

Brantley was the guy I was thinking of. Thigpen started, but they had a second baseman, Gator Thiesen, who'd come in a just shutdown everyone in relief.

That team, '84 MSU, came into the Box direct from Hawaii ranked #1. The Box was packed... with MSU fans. How LSU won 2 of the 3 games in that series is still beyond most longtime LSU baseball fans!

You left out all the EEEEEE's. That clown choke it up at the Box! The 1986 regionals he must have comitted 10 errors. The "Left Field Bleacher Creatures" were under his skin from jump street! Every grounder to 3rd was trouble. Toss in the fact the Pond Scum fans decided to enter into a yelling match with Jeff Yertin, our 3rd sacker, and you had a wonderful LSU-Pond Scum game. It was the first of the annual "LSU eliminates Tulane" regionals.

Jacques Jones in '94 was my favorite. The guy was a class act all the way.

It's hard to pick out just one player fans just hated, but one guy I didn't like and not necessarily because he was some great player but because I thought he was a piece of crap was the center fielder for Tulane - Jon Kaplan or whatever his name was.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs in like 1985 or 86 that had Will Clark, Rafael Palmeiro, Bobby Thigpen, Jeff Brantley. I remember seeing Georgia with Derek Lilliquist battle State in a great SEC tourney game. That State team was outstanding.

I think Eli Iorg will be on that list as one of the top players after this past weekend. Luckily there is only one of him on UT's roster...
