Luckily on-post housing has basements. It was very strange on Saurday - tornado warning sirens blaring, dark skies, but no rain and the wind was eerily calm. Then it all hit at once. I could see the circular motions of the clouds in several different places. Wind snapped two trees in half and I hauled ass to the basement.

the calm before the storm. when we are having tornadic weather, when it suddenly gets really calm, i get very nervous. it did that here yesterday. we thought we were out of it, it got calm, then they came on tv and gave the location of a new tornado. it went from light outside to dark as a moonless midnight really fast.

i can see how trees snapping would make you haul ass. glad you had a basement and glad you are ok through all of what the mid section of the country has been having the past few days!

Hmm. I bet storm cellar construction is a growth business in tornado alley. I wonder if any of them are on NASDAQ . . .

Is this due to global warming?

Or maybe obama will figure out that we should all have one and force companies to install them for free. They can call it a deduction.:D

Can you say for a fact that it isn't? No.

I'm going to regret saying this...but it is funny how this argument works for global warming and not other things.

Back on topic...glad to hear everything is ok y'all.

Yes I can. It's actually due to cooling in the Pacific.

It's due to climate changes of some sort. The number, size and footprints of tornados change every year due to climatic shifts. But there is no one-to-one link between warmer years and tornado activity, at least not for the big ones.
