Do other schools keep lurkers here just in case we talk about them? Is there like a little red light that goes off on their board when we bring them up? Why would someone name a team after a nut?
All people from Ohio are called Buckeyes, so the team represents the whole state not just a school which is unique.
As unique as "The Sooner State," "Jayhawk State," "Tarheel State," "The Blue Hen State," "Hoosier State," "Hawkeye State," "Wolverine State," "Cornhusker State," "Volunteer State," "Badger State," even Oregon is known as "The Beaver State." It's not that unique afterall is it Buckeye, considering nearly 1/4 of the states have nicknames tying them to a certain athletic team.
I had the unfortunate experience of living in ohio for a while. The summers are great. It's dry and warm with a lot of golf courses. That's about all Ohio is good for. OSU games suck. They are in the day time for the most part and with exception to UM and this year Texas, they really have no big show down really. Those OSU fans are the worst. My buddy is a fan and he won't shut up about LSU losing to Georgia and is convinced '03 OSU could beat '03 LSU. Anyway, back on topic of slow learners at OSU. Didn't Andy Katzymoyer or however you spell it fail golf.
I admit Tennessee, Indiana, and Oklahoma do have team names that come from their state motto/slogan, but I've never heard someone from Kansas be called a Jayhawk, or someone from North Carolina be called a Tarheel.
