Probation or not, Terry Bowden is an example LSU fans can point to of a first-year coach leading a talented team to an undefeated season (Larry Coker being the second). In fact, Terry won his first 20 games at Auburn. I think many of us would take that kind of run from Coach Les (understatement of the decade). I guess a glass half empty type would say that Coker and Bowden are the only two coaches in major college football history to go undefeated in their first year at the helm, while a glass half full type would say that the fact it happened twice in less than 10 years means it's becoming something of a trend.
Auburn was undefeated the '93 season, when they couldn't play on T.V. I know they couldn't have been undefeated in '94 when J. Howard threw those 4 INTs in the 4th quarter. Don't forget about '95 Florida, and Florida was also undefeated in the SEC in '96.
We were undefeated in the '93 season...but we were on probation and couldn't play in any post-season game. So its not a true undefeated season imo. also...Florida lost their bowl game in 1995 to nebraska...so they werent undefeated that year.
Well '57 is a slightly different situation. No I don't consider it a 'true' undefeated season because we didn't play in a bowl game... However in 1957 the AP poll came out before the bowl games... so if u consider an AP national championship 'valid' from those days...I think our championship from that year is...because it wouldn't have mattered if we lost our bowl game or not. With that being said...i'm pretty sick of talking about AP titles, coaches titles, upi titles, and BCS titles...its all so subjetive and you can skew everything to fit your perspective... SEC Championships are much easier to look back and see who won.
