I agree with everything you wrote. The fact that a flag wasn't thrown is beyond comprehension. I would expect the SEC office to reprimand the officials, but it will be an internal matter and we'll never know what transpired.
It has been mentioned on the Auburn boards that Auburn was flagged twice for illegal blocking in the Vanderbilt game.
correct, but neither of the vandy calls was related to a chop-block in the zone, and neither IMO were as ugly as what the Dorsey block was. BTW, here's the complete section of Tuberville's interview, not just the portion published by the Mobile Press-Register:
Give it up, Caddy. The block was illegal and dangerous. Ramsey alone is responsible for committing it. Malace and intent has nothing to do with it. Tuberville (and his apologists) trying to explain this away instead of just manning up to it is evasive and insulting. Auburn will be watched very closely the rest of the season, amigo. With good reason . . . their coach thinks it's OK to chop block because they were not being mean about it. Ridiculous.
what happens when a team develops a rep for this, deserved or not, the players will take care of it on the field like baseball. it will police itself. if another "unintentional" chop block occurs in a conference game vs auburn, payback will likely happen against someone like quentin groves. this is why tubocrap should have policed and reprimanded this kid publically. to dismiss it as an accident is foolish. this is partly why auburn goes 13-0 and is left out of the NC picture. their coach doesnt get the respect he could otherwise if he showed any class. that and karma is a bitch.
Concerning the Umpire no call. This is the description of an Umpires responsibilities. Umpire Primary responsibility to rule on players’ equipment, as well as their conduct and actions on scrimmage line. Lines up approximately four to five yards downfield, varying position from in front of weakside tackle to strongside guard. Looks for possible false start by offensive linemen. Observes legality of contact by both offensive linemen while blocking and by defensive players while they attempt to ward off blockers. Is prepared to call rule infractions if they occur on offense or defense. Moves forward to line of scrimmage when pass play develops in order to insure that interior linemen do not move illegally downfield. If offensive linemen indicate screen pass is to be attempted, Umpire shifts his attention toward screen side, picks up potential receiver in order to insure that he will legally be permitted to run his pattern and continues to rule on action of blockers. Umpire is to assist in ruling on incomplete or trapped passes when ball is thrown overhead or short.
