Some guys just can't handle fame, success, and expectations. Perhaps it was all going to his head a bit too much, and maybe that would have affected his play this year.
Plus, exactly what kind of personnel discipline does this show. What Jefferson did wasn't against the law either unless you TRY to trump up the charges like the BR DA did (and failed of course by the Grand Jury findings). People were crucifying Jefferson for lack of discipine, being an idiot, NOT being a team leader, etc. This is the exact same thing and IMO just like Jefferson, they just projected to me guys who were "me" guys. I never heard them talk about the team like Mettenberger does, Minter does, Simon does, the LSU running backs do, etc.
Only case I can remember was 2008 where Auburn was ranked like 20th to start, USC and Texas never lost and Auburn could climb no higher than 3rd. It mattered then for sure...any others?
I could not disagree more. The drug rule is absolutely necessary and it is fairly administered. This is not the first time Mathieu tested positive for drugs. It sounds like you want the players to run the program. There are team rule and everyone knows what they are and what are the penalties for violating them. You can't put this on Miles. Abusing drugs does not fall under the category of "kids being kids"; getting drunk at a bar does.
I hope Mathieu gets his act together and finds a path forward. Most of all I am sad for this young man who has seen such hardship wasn't able to overcome his demons. LaSalle whether weed is legal or not it was only the tool Tyrann used to fail. Had it been legal he would have found something else. I will always remember his unbelievable performance last year fondly and hope he finds a way to get back on a positive path.
