FightinTiger already answered the first part, but here's my answer to the second part: LSU & Coach Miles haven't allowed fans to get excited about the Spring Scrimmage. It's not a game, it's situational which means pretty boring to those that aren't extreme LSU football fans. Also, the only reports we get to read say, "We did pretty good, but need improvement... The QB race is still tight..." No statistics. No real information. How can we get excited when we have no idea what we will be seeing??
Well, that, by itself, is alittle exciting is it not? I know, I know, it's not the same. I really want this weekend to be good. I've been looking forward to it for awhile. I just hope there are alot of people down there and that the atmosphere is up to par. I'll even get to see some baseball afterward. This will be the first time, besides the bash, that coach experiences the fans at LSU. We need a good showing not only for him but our players as well.
Florida will win a NC under Meyer. There is some vulnerability in the state of florida with FSU and Miami on the downward trend, and I think a young energetic coach like Meyer could capitalize in recruiting the state and region. He reminds me of a combination of visor boy and Saban. I know that sounds weird but it is just my thought. As for our situation, I agree with some that I don't have a good feeling about the future of the program, but I hope I am wrong.
Is it just me, or does it seem like Meyer purposely disabled the defense in order to make his offense seem better? Nearly 60,000 fans were there to see this game and Meyer knew he had to impress. I'm willing to bet he compromised the defense in order to put up better numbers on offense.
Meyer ran certain defenses to get work and practice...kind of like UGA running the wishbone during their Spring Game. It's common, imo
I think that Meyer knows full well that he will have to simply outscore a few opponents this year to do better than 8-5. The reality is that the Florida defense is, "very average." Charlie Strong admitted in a recent interview that his linebacker group is of great concern to him. He is going to have to plug in some true freshmen. I went to the Georgia Spring Game last Saturday where about 25,000 fans showed up. The Georgia OL is fully mature and Georgia has 4 outstanding experienced running backs coming back. I don't think that the Florida defense is going to be able to stop these guys. They couldn't do it last year when they had Crowder. By the way... I think that Spurrier has UT on the top of his target list. If he loses to UF, I don't think that it would bother him all that much, unless he spots Foley in the crowd.
Funny you should mention the wishbone. The thing is, Richt IS going to use a set that involves something similar to a speed veer set. The only difference from the wishbone is that one of the backs will go in motion and be a receiving threat, typically to the strong side. The wide outs were working really hard to sustain their blocks. This isn't something that they just threw in for fun. They have definately been working on this for some time. This is a direct adaptation to their personnel.
Dutchtown, maybe that is just trepidation you are feeling and I think many if not most Tiger fans feel that. How can we be real confident after seeing what has happened with 4 of our last 6 coaching changes. It's so hard to believe that we are now on our 7th HC since Cholly Mac was forced out, not counting Rein for obvious reasons. Hopefully Miles was the right choice, it's hard to know now and will be for a couple of years I think. Lord knows I thought Archer was the perfect choice after his first season. I'm hoping that in January of 2008 we are all praising how well we played in a BCS Bowl with many of the players being Miles recruits.
Spurrier said in a recent interview that Clemson was not as big of a deal as USC fans should make it. So, with that said, I think he will concentrate much more on UGA then UF then UT then CU.
