Columbus is a secular figure. To analogize St. Patrick's Day with Columbus Day is incorrect. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. St. Joseph is the patron saint of Italy so it is the observances of St. Patrick's Day and St. Joseph's Day that that are analogous, not the observance of Columbus Day.
