Same guy...same scenario. He ended up missing several games one year, it was called "injury." (cough, cough)

Really? I thought he was implying that Les Miles and company was behind it when he said "LSU people". When Les said he was going to report any improper contact he knew about, he was talking about USC and another school (widely assumed to be Ole Miss). And he may have, but the Los Angeles press is what is driving the "running wild" publicity.

You may be right. I assumed, if he was anything like 90%+ of the journalist (term used loosely)out there, he was/is getting his information based on what was circulating within the fan base/Internet. The term "people" definitely isn't definitive, is it?

The wild thing I find about this goes over to the Carroll to San Diego thread. Running for cover? That's just speculation...but the ole' saying about smoke and fire...

Ding, ding. We have a winner

It is amazing and disappointing that most of the journalists out here are almost always last in line to report what has already been widely discussed among the fan base on chat boards! These days, it's only the feature stories that hold much interest for true sports fans.

I quit reading the LA Times several years ago when the editorials (non sports related) became so politically slanted in one direction, it was unreadable. I haven't missed even one day of their sports section. As a side note, the sports editor is Bill Dwyer..........a domer.

One of the worst offenders is Scott Wolf, former writer for the Daily Trojan, a current writer for The Daily News, and proprietor of his own sports blog. He has printed so many false stories it's not funny. He has printed that CJ Spiller was a Trojan, Mario Danelo committed suicide, and on the day of the NFL draft he floated the rumor that LenDale White had tested positive for marijuana which turned out to be a false report. No apologies from Wolf.

These days, some of the most accurate info comes from fans. I tried to tell ya'll that Ole Miss was never in the running for JM! :yelwink2:

Vball, you were inquiring about information the other day to try to get a little more insight on LSU program.......To many, Glenn Guilbeau is to LSU what Scott Wolf is to USC; however, from what I've read, Wolf may be worse.

    That's true, Vball.

I don't think I've subscribed to a newspaper since '99...and that may be more like '98. When I was in school at Bama we had a listserve mailing list running off the schools mainframe that had more information posted in an hour than the local media, save one reporter, could post in a week.

Over the last few decades when I was writing I couldn't even fathom to guess how many times I've written something only to find it, literally word for word, in one of the papers within 2-3 days.

Occasionally, I surf over some of the editorials. The "beat writers" really haven't had an impact on sports fans for the last 4-6 years. (heck, most of the time they are trying to post an editorial more so than reporting the news. Well, let me add this...I will read over some of what the beat writers say occasionally just to see a) how many days they are behind, and b) to see just how far off base they actually are.)

Hell, the print media isn't even worth using as something to start a fire in the fireplace anymore...you can add a few of the national Internet/Sports related sites to that as well.

He couldn't just have an LSU and Ole miss hat because everyone would know he had the USC hat hidden. At least by having the Bama hat it made people think that USC may not be a choice. That's the only reason it was up there. He basically flipped off half of the SEC west. I'de rather he just left the LSU hat off the table.

I honestly was floored when he walked in with the Cardinal sweater. For someone who was "LSU" the night before, I wonder when he had time to run out and get the sweater. Like I said, he knew way before.
