IMO I just don't see a 4 or 8 team play-off format, it would just detract from the great tradition of college football. On the other hand I could be an advocate for utilizing the regular season schedule as a means to determine conference champions (all conferences), taking the winners and placing them into (baseball like) super regionals in the second week of Dec. From this the BCS bowls would become involved by pitting the six highest BCS ranked teams (because of the bias in the human polls) to determine the top two candidates to play for the NC. I realize there would be a lot of logistics to work out for this format to be incorporated, but it would go a long way toward satisfying traditional football along with providing a true national champion. Just my thoughts, and of course it would take someone a whole lot smarter than me to set this up to make it a viable system. Always remember--- GEAUX TIGAHS !!

A 4 team. 8 team or 16 team playoff would quickly become a part of the great tradition of college football. You didn't make whatever it is that you are proposing very clear but as i understand it the Superregionals would match lets say the SEC champ against the CUSA champ, The Big 10/11 champ against the MAC champ, ACC vs Big East, Pac 10 vs WAC, Big 12 vs Sunbelt winner or some similar format. Then, if I understand correctly what you are saying, the winners of the Super Regional games would be seeded by the BCS but there would be no further playoff games. The two highest seeded Super Regional winners would play for the MNC while the other Super Regional winners would be screwed by the system. So if LSU, Oklahoma and USC all win their Super Regionals but a possible #1 Michigan would lose a Super Regional game to say Miami of Ohio there would be practically a snowballs chance in hell for Miamo of Ohio to advance to the MNC because the BCS would already have LSU, OU and USC rated higher.

Correct me if this is not the way you have envisioned your proposed system but if I am right about what you're saying your are right about saying it will take somebody a lot smarter than you to make it work.

Glad to see that I am in fact revered as being intellectually challenged- yes the six highest ranked teams in three BCS bowl games; a) 5 vs 6, b) 1 vs 3, c) 2 vs 4. The a) game not having any bearing on the MNC due to rank but would be a great match for a bowl game, the winners of the b) and c) games advancing to the forth BCS bowl game for the MNC.

Let me get this straight. After this hypothetical Super Regional do the winners play the other Super Regional winners with those winners advancing to the bowl hosting the Title game that year or do they just say "OK, our computers now have enough data to determine which two teams play for all the marbles and the other Super Regional winners get relegated to also-ran status"

Your scenario is confusing. Can you spell out some possible brackets?

Wasn't it USC that said the BCS was the ONLY way to go when determining who was going to play in the Sugar Bowl? Now, all of a sudden since the same system they were all for voted them out, there is a foul???? Please......USC, your fans suck and you don't deserve to be in the NC. You'll find that out when Michigan takes you down.

The winners of the super regionals advance into a pool, of these the six highest BCS ranked teams advance to the BCS bowl games, the winners of the 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4 games advance to the national championship. This will increase the season by one game for everyone except the teams in the NC game, still giving the fans their traditional bowl games, the BCS gets the top six ranked teams in its' bowl games and a national championship game picked from the top four teams in the nation. Any way you look at it the top four ranked teams in the nation will have the top two teams (polls and/or BCS) included and each will have the opportunity to play for the NC avoiding the "USC possible split NC" and previous scenarios experienced by other teams.
