AU ended up in the top ten for beating #5 (us). We dropped to #13. If we beat UGA and they're still ranked ahead of us, that would be a travesty.
Sometimes those things take a week to sort out. LSU ended up a spot behind Florida when they beat them in 97. The voters just fill out their ballots, they don't know the final standings when they vote. That's why things like that get fixed a week later, provided both teams win.
I just want to make sure I have this right . . . from reading this thread fans believe that if SC loses a game (sometime throughout the season) they will only drop to #4 and that if we beat GA the Bulldogs will be ranked ahead of us? I can understand some complaints, even fears of bias. But we didn't drop like a fuccing stone when we gutted out a win against OREst, we were only moved down a couple of spots due to the Miami/FLst game (a match up of the 2 teams in the top 6). After losing to AU, we dropped a normal amount of spots for a top 5 team who loses to a top 15 team, in fact we stayed well above other unbeaten teams. If SC, OU, OhSt, or Miami go undefeated they deserve to play in the NC (Even if we win out). However, I don't understand this current fear that all these teams will go undefeated or only drop 1 or 2 spots if they lose a game. I'm not saying SC is not a media darling, they clearly are, but they will face the same pressures any team trying to retain the #1 spot all season long. If they can go undefeated, staying #1 wire to wire, they deserve to play in the NC no matter how much I (or you) hate them.
After watching the Stanford game, I don't think a USC win is such a slam dunk. What killed Stanford in the first half is they had a terrible running game. You can't move the ball on any good defense by being one-dimensional. I'd love to see LSU's defense up against USC's offense, both last year and this. They'd still probably win because of the huge talent and productivity edge at QB, but it's not a total slam dunk.
:hihi: ... and how many spots did USC slip after their comeback miracle ... no different than LSU's win over OSU ... unless you're a Stanford "grape stomper"
It still boils down to the later in the season USC loses, the better. And I think if they lose to Cal after LSU beats GA and FL, that LSU would be 1 spot better in both polls over USC, never to relinguish that lead the rest of the season. That will be sweet. Of course if USC loses to Arizona State instead a few weeks later, then so much the better, a bigger cushion for LSU over USC at that point.
I guess that win over The Citadel really impressed the voters: (Auburn) Tigers garner national praise These fools move up one spot after beating The Citadel 33-3? They also moved up from 10 to 9 in the ESPN/Coaches Poll. It's almost enough to make me violate the TOS. Even Lee Corso is drinking the Auburn Kool-Aid saying they're the third best team in the nation. :nonono: We'll see where the stand after a loss at Tennessee...
They shouldn't have slipped, they won the game. The win against Standford was much different than the our win against OreSt. Standford has been playing much better than OREst, in fact other than the loss to SC this weekend Standford has only 1 loss. OreSt might have all the talent in the world, but they still have had a horrible season. But, I guess I'm a Stanford grape stomper . . .because you say so. Would I gather more respect here if I bitched like a little girl after the rankings are released each week? Maybe LSU should be ranked #1 right now, and forever. Why not, we are just that good. Who cares if there are other teams from BCS conferences that are undefeated, we are clearly better than everyone else. I hate SC, but I'm not a afraid of them or jealous. All LSU can do is take care of their own schedule this season. I don't see the point in acting like a non-BCS team not getting respect. I just don't understand why everyone is so afraid of the rest of the NCAA. If we win out, we have a more than better chance of landing in the NC. If 2 other teams go undefeated, we don't deserve a NC this year. I still say the rankings are fair. I don't see anything to bitch and moan about just yet.
I've gone through this entire thread and the 1 thing that gets me is that the sport of college football is ruined by the lack of post season play and the way its all decided. Playing in a weak ass conference does nothing but help that team! LSU certainly didn't help anything by making OSU and the punk 10 look better anyway. The thing that I'm hoping is we can run the table, Georgia and Florida look somewhat vulnerable after recent games this year. I don't think there is any clear cut team in this conference anymore like when Darth Visor was at Florida when they were above everyone else. If we can run the table and USuck loses after we did, remember last year, then that should be to our advantage like it was to theres. Watching the last few weeks though I don't think we would've beat USuck or any top ten team because our offense just hasn't been there with the situation we've been in. Having said that I hope and think we will be better this week and can play with some kind of identity offensively. I think we should run the ball a little more with AB until the QB's become a little more consistant. Just my 2 cents
