That's what they said about Mullen and Mississippi State. He should take the job, the East is struggling right now, and he could definitely use it as a stepping stone. Remember the pinacle for Vandy would be bowl game.
Not after AU goes 5-7 or 6-6 next season. I mean, seriously, I can't see how the timing could be better for him! Like Pelini in 2007. Strike while the iron's hot, man. I thought only AU fans would be saying he should stay! I mean, $3 million/year for 7 years!! It would make him one of the highest paid HCs in the country, man! Like top 5-6! He'd be a fool to pass on this! He cannot possibly suffer from this unless somehow Vandy gets WORSE. As many have stated, if he takes them to a bowl...ANY bowl...he's a HUGE success. If he doesn't, everybody will say it's Vandy...and they didn't expect much anyway. It's a win win situation for him. Staying at AU is the only thing that DOES jeopardize his chances at a big time HC gig.
Don't know how great a fit it will be, he doesn't have a lot of time coaching in the NCAA and the SEC is very tough. I think it is a huge reach and I doubt he is ready for a HC gig just yet. However he would be a complete idiot to turn it down. 30k a year 4 years ago to 3 mil a year? Turn it down? If nothing else it gives him a ton of experience as a HC in the toughest conference there is. It should prepare him for his next job or show he isn't capable.
If Mississippi State can hire an assistant with no head coaching experience (and 7 years younger than Malzahn)... and Florida can hire an assistant with no head coaching experience (and 6 years younger than Malzahn)... or Auburn can hire a coach with two years head coaching experience (going 5-19 overall and 2-14 in conference).... why is it such a stretch to think Malzahn would automatically be in over his head at Vandy? makes no sense.
Hell at 3000000 a year he could suck and get fired after a year or two and retire to a care free life with no bills or job and enjoy life. He has hit the jackpot.
