1. Everyone of those you mentioned has many more years coaching NCAA football than Malzan, IMO that's the difference. Malzan is just a few years removed from coaching high school. He has done a good job as an OC, but his responsibilities and duties with increase tremendously as a HC as will the pressure. I think he could have used a few more years learning the ropes as an OC. That doesn't mean he won't succeed.
  2. True... all three will have their responsiblities and duties increase tremendously". I was thinking more about the gravity of a Florida or Auburn job... even Miss State... versus Vandy.
Mullen pretty much chased one coach, Urban Meyer, around for 8 years. Malzahn roped himself into a bad gig at Arkansas, but has been a rising "Phoenix from the ashes" since at Tulsa and Auburn.
Time will tell whether he's the next Spurrier or the next Norm Chow, but I, for one, like his resume better than either Mullen or Muschamp.
  3. He'd be an idiot not to take this.

It is the opportunity of a life time. To build up a struggling team and get to take all the credit for it. In the SEC no less ... I mean, that's posh.

Malzan is a great offensive coach. He can do things with players that don't often make the headlines. Give him a Cam Newton, as this year, and practically nobody can touch his offensive strategies. Give him a Vandy over the next 2 years, and I'll guarantee you they will not be the bottom of the bucket anymore.

In 4 years, with players scrambling to play for him, I would expect Vandy to be a reputable contender in the east. In fact, having Malzan at Vandy could hurt TN really bad. I mean ... who would you want to play for ... Dooley from LaTech, or Malzan who lead Auburn to the NC??

    I say go for it!!
  4. thats what I would have said if I could type

    very nice

    +1
  5. All great points. Add to that once he gets Vandy to a couple of winning seasons, which is all it will take, he should then become a hot prospect for anyone looking for a HC for one the the premier programs. It's a win win situation. Really can't loose.

  6. Not So Fast, My Friend!

  7. Makes me wonder if things are not so bad - and may not get bad - at Auburn.

    But who knows?
  8. Chris Low is saying no he di'int.
  9. Apparently he turned it down.
