Why do we keep hearing this ... we've played 3 top 25 teams in the first 4 games ..... and won handily with lots of points, but somehow, our ofense hasn't seen a stout defense, and everyone is worried.

I mean, hey ... the Ducks weren't pushovers. MState wasn't either. WV was a tough defense as well. I know we are SEC snobs ... but let's give the other guys a little credit.

Do you reckon the Bama guys are sitting around saying that their offense is too vanilla. Hell no .. they are saying we're 5-0. And I didn't see anything fance about their offense either.

I say :geaux: and bring home the :crystal:.

    Well lets see, Total Defense...
Oregon isn't in the top 50, WV #22, MSU is #46.
Did I miss something? No one is saying they are pushovers.
I've already addressed the tough defenses as well.
It isn't about the SEC, it is about our offense versus top 10 defenses in Florida and Alabama, Alabama is #3 and Florida is #7 in total defense.
Well think goodness we aren't Bama guys, if you don't like others discussing the topics I don't know what to tell you but maybe ignore this forum.
Some of us have fun discussing and thinking about these things and I don't see anything wrong with that.

This pair of shoes confiscated from JJ shows his versatility. We will see more than plain vanilla in the weeks to come.

    Agreed.

People! Listen up! Outside of a 13-point win @ Miss St., we've put up 35 points or MORE in EVERY other contest....and 3 out of our first 5 victories came vs top 25 teams....all on the road.

I don't care if we ran the same play 75 times. If they can't stop it, and we're scoring in bunches, does it REALLY matter whether or not we're "vanilla"???

We'll open it up when we have to. Why show your hand before it's time?

I don't find that the offense has been vanilla minus the Kentucky game but since that was the last game played it's stuck in people's minds.. That game seem to be more about working on things as opposed to calling a vanilla game.. We've had injuries in the o-line and what better way to work on blocking assignments.. LSU had that game in hand pretty early so as a coach you see the o-line have blocking assignment issues you run those plays over and over until they get better at it, it's basically what happens in practice so with the NCAA limits of practice time, why not work on them in the game?? This is just my guess, I can't figure out any other reason to run those running plays over and over....

I can see your point and it makes great sense. But why not work on your passing game as well. Why didnt we practice a legit 2 minute drill right before half?

Why didnt we get JJ some passes if he is going to see PT moving forward?

Why not get Mett some reps through tha air as well?

This years team has been pretty good in pass blocking, we have some teams coming up that have defensive lines that are really good.. Think about the game in two parts, the first half it did seem like we threw the ball more, the pass blocking looked good, the reads looked good and the routes looked pretty good, take away the drops and the passing game in the first half would have looked very productive. Also in the first half the team seemed to struggle running the ball, seemed like the second half play calls were to work on that..

I can only imagine that CLM has a good reason for what plays JJ ran.. He looked really good on the options and for sure gives Florida something to work and I think showing only runs with JJ can set up passing plays if the defense is thinking only run.

I think Mett happened to fall in the run only second half and was more about just getting him in and a little experience for next year..

The defenses we face ARE thinking only RUN. And by doing that, they have complete DIS-respect for our passing game. I like the approach by Stud/Krag/CLM to say, you know what, phuck you, you want to continue to stack the box after we have shown our ability to pass, lets pass it. If we didn’t have so many dropped passes Kentucky would have looked really stupid. But we helped them out.

This whole weekend and this whole conversation about vanilla offense, and is LSU the real deal with such a weak offense, would not even exist right now if we didn’t have 7 drops on Saturday. - PERIOD

That is the real story and these WR's especially Shep have nobody to blame but their selves. We are talking about balls that no, they were not thrown perfect but it hit you in the hands.

There are so many QB's who look like Heisman candidates because they have WR's who consistently make plays. Weeden & Landry Jones, most of the time, they just have to throw the ball up and Blackmon & Broyles will go get it. Much like OD & RR do.

There is NOT a single doubt in my mind that if Lee had a better WR corps, he would be a better QB & LSU would have much more of an offensive threat.

No Lee is not perfect, but he would have much better numbers, including more passing yards and TD's this season if our WR's could hold on to the ball.

Several drops against Oregon & Kentucky, dropped touchdown pass against WVU.
