WHAT A HYPOCRITE! :dis: You were defending Pittman & saying he was justified for knocking the crap out of that kid at Bogey's on another post. While there are many differences between the two situations (Bar room/BB court, day/night, major injury/injury), BOTH Were 1 punch by SEC FB players that should have never been thrown. You can't have it both ways!
Nope, not a hypocrite at all. My stance is very consistent. You seem to expect a male to stand by if a female friend of theirs is assaulted. I expect him to kick the crap out of the offender. I don't expect a sucker punch in a basketball game. It's actually quite simple.
I'm referring to a starting LSU player last year who hit his girlfriend, was arrested as I recall, and charges reduced later. I don't think he was suspended or anything. See post above by mcmikel My only point is that we are sometimes critical about situations at othe schools but forget similiar ones at our own schools, as you seem to have forgot about this one. Human nature I guess.
If I'm not mistaken, we established on this board that Pittman did not witness the "assault", did not know the female, and that she was in no danger when, sometime later, the "deserving offender" got sucker punched. The only justifiable situation in which Pittman could be excused is if he witnessed a woman in immediate mortal or at least physical peril, and intervened physically to prevent her harm. No other false after-the-fact chivalry can justify his actions. He may well have felt he was in the right and not the least bit thugish, but if so, he was wrong. He got off easy. The Tenn player has no such pretense. He sucker punched someone for nothing other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He should no longer be playing football, at least, and I believe should be aguest of the state for a while. . .
Glad this board is where the facts are delineated. I'd hate for it to be somewhere other than an Internet message board. So says you. Doesn't mean everybody lives by the same code (or should.) A lot can transpire that can lead to such an incident, beyond immediate mortal or physical peril.
I'll concede that the facts may very well be different than I have read. I know none of the parties involved. I have never seen anything approaching an "official account" of the incident. Nevertheless, unless what went down matches my description of an acceptable act by Pittman, then excusing him requires some rationalization that I believe would place me squarely in the hypocrite column. I prefer to take the high road, and so should all the tiger fans who have puffed their chests out over the last few years when our "Clean Program" was mentioned. Says me. Look at it this way: If she was in no immediate danger (i.e. no longer even in the beatee's vicinity) when the alleged groper/assaulter was attacked, yet Pittman was justified in seeking him out and and beating him down, then I say we go find the Mofo now and finish the job!! We'd be heroes!!
I think he's trying to say that we overlooked our own incident but are jumping all over this because it's Tennessee's incident. IMO, the video makes everything completely different regardless of circumstances. When there's no video, it's easy to say that it's not as bad as it sounds or whatever to rationalize it, but with this video - there's no denying that the guy sucker punched him - hard, because of a little foul during a basketball scrimmage.
