Mett will improve with time. The O-line will improve with time. But what I want to see right away, in this game, is an abrupt decline in stupid penalties. If Les needs to bench some starters for not knowing the snap count, blocking in the back on returns, and personal fouls, then bench them, coach. The Top-10 teams we will play will turn 80 yards of penalties into 21 extra points.
There were at least a couple of nice downfield calls and passes last Saturday. Problem was, AU's secondary had our guys locked down when we threw them. Remember that bomb to the end zone? Couldn't have placed it better. But the DB seemingly forgot that he was an aubie and was in the WR's front pocket.
I'd actually like to see much more mid-field attempts. Crossing routes, slants, TE release patterns, etc. Should always have a mid-field option, even on power packages. If the defense is going to crowd the line then they need to pay with some play action.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of the TE being a threat on the short passes. I don't know why we don't use Clement more. After a couple drops early last season, he started hanging on pretty good.
So it now looks like the Oregon's of the world (State included) are propping up the Pac 12's dignity. Sounds iffy at best. No sooner did Jesse Palmer, of nitwit fame, get through telling the football world that Stanford's defensive front 7 was better then Bama and LSU, that Washington started slashing them in a heroic 4th quarter comeback. Sometimes timing is everything.
Not falling at all. Its simply very possible we lose a couple games and fall out the top 10. Doesnt mean I think there are 15 teams better just we play in the best conference. But that's how rankings work. Media idiots voting don't take that into account. Theyd rather pump up a Boise or tcu.
I think the UW game and the AU game showed us what College football is really made of: Emotionally driven young adults. Hell, I get emotional just watching and I'm 27. I cannot imagine what goes through their head. LSU's play at AU was 100% attributed to an mental lapse in respect, execution, and fundamentals. On the flip side, they saw UW as their first real test and performed as such.
