This is nothing out of the norm. You want a loan you back it up.

as long as there is profit to be made loaning money to people who will be able to pay it back, there will be loans available. banks like profit.

the bailout was a horrible horrible horrible idea.

I really wish we could have a glimpse into what we would be up against had we not infused our financial institutions with cash. I'm not claiming to be an oracle but I think the situation would have been devastating. The one thing Barack has said that I totally agree with is "we can't govern out of anger". I find that's the reason most people oppose the financial institution bailouts. I know how repugnant the idea is but it was necessary.

Some shops would have closed some would have taken on the new business and some would have started up. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Yes it would have been hard. But to prop up bad business is BAD BUSINESS.

    Liquidate.

I think it's clear we won't agree here.

Clearly. During the Great Depression this is what they did and we are better for it now.

Inflating these businesses will do nothing in the long haul.

It's easy to say that having not gone through the great depression. Apparently we agree as to what could have happened if the banks had been allowed to fail.

Yep it would have been bad for a year or two. A blip in time.

The great depression was longer than a year or two, no?
