We need to ditch the "Pelini Scheme" and "CO-DCs" after this year..

  1. Okay, here's my take after mulling over and watching the D last night. I saw a lot of things I liked. Including intensity on the sidelines by BDP. However, I think if you really look closer and listen to what CLM says week in and week out, you begin to understand the mindset behind the D.

    1. He says we blitz relative to down and distance, so no distance, no blitz (very predictable)

    2. A trend of a mobile/spread quarterback, less blitzes as defense trying to keep play in front.

Notice last night. When did we start to really pin our ears back? When Garcia got nicked, and was less mobile. Also when it appeared that their running game was no threat, and they were in full passing mode.

I think this is why we have such a frustrating "jeckyl and hyde" defense.

Obviously other factors come into play that really make the D look "worse" at times. Erratic QB play-thus limited offense, new starters, injuries, blown assignments and the biggest....horrendous tackling.

This is not posted as criticism but more as an observation. Personally, I would like to see us go to more of a defense like say, Nix's at Ole Miss, and go back to one coordinator. But at the end of the day I trust the man with the hat...:milesmic:

BTW, College Football News makes a similar point here:

The turning point, one has to concede, came when Garcia—early in the second half—slightly limped off the field after absorbing a hit that produced a fumble and a Tiger recovery just past midfield. A superb play by LSU’s resilient defense brought about a turn of events that was felt beyond the game’s immediate flow. Far more than causing a change of possession and the flipping of field position, that play took away Stephen Garcia’s legs, and after that moment, a previously effective Carolina attack was reduced to rubble.

  2. The advocate referred to our new look front as "The Express". I have to say that I liked the idea and the effectiveness of four DE's along the line. They really seemed to rattle things up front for USC. Georgia is still underperforming at the O-Line position and Stafford isn't quick to take off. If our pressure game continues like that, we SHOULD be able to disrupt their passing game where it starts...at the Quarterback.

  3. Just wait for the "another one off the bandwagon" remarks because you were "so negative." :hihi:

But I agree with you. As well as we did last year, it was frustrating because we started so strong and ended so weak (during the season). I hope we do the opposite this season and end really strong, as it should help with the rankings.
  4. I am just hoping that we blitz the fire out of UGA, and my theory goes out the window! :geauxtige
  5. is it time to put the poll up again?

I promise to add a undetermined option this time...
  6. Yeah, I'm ready to vote...

  7. Man, I should get paid for this stuff. :hihi:
  8. I STILL think the problem is we have two defensive coordinators meaning we have no defensive coordinator and no one responsible for he blame.

We also have 2 QB's which means we have no QB this year, seriously.
Too many mistakes on offense and we aren't able to consistantly run the ball.
Seems like our defense is on the field too much.
I could be wrong here but I don't think so?
We sure score a lot of points due to being behind in a game.
I don't know but I think we need a defensive coordinator who is known for his defense?

I must confess I don't know much about Peveto and Mallory but their know Bo Pelini!

  10. What we need is a DC who can tailor fit the defensive schemes for not only the talent level of the players on the team but also for what that week's opponent provides in terms of exploitable areas to attack. What we have are 2 guys who approach each game with perhaps a bias for their positional responsibility with no clear final authority on decisioning.
