People throwing around a lot of comparisons to UGA last year. It would be more accurate to compare the OSU game. Similar offensive scheme, no pressure on the QB, and an overall inability to stuff a much less physical team.
no way, with our D playing horrible and our recievers dropping half the balls thrown at them, we still managed to win.
Oh the Georgia game can't really be compared. That day LSU didn't play with heart and were lazy. Last night was a bad defensive scheme.
Why do people keep talking about how good Pelini's D was at OU? When it was claerly Bob Stoops D. Same as Saban and Muschamp. I'm hoping him and Miles were nervous since it was there 1st games or something. When a blitz was called the scheme was terrible blitz the lb from 8 yards off the ball, blitzing the db from off his man instead of letting them come to the line and just have the safety play coverage. The coaching staff relied to much on the d-line. I wasn't happy w/ the lack of pressure on the QB and the soft cushions given by our db's. I also never saw Miles or Pelini show emotion during the game except if we scored a TD.
The Defensive Players: I only fault them for some bad tackling but this is the first game where they are playing for keeps. Bo Pelini: I fault for him for this pitiful defensive performance. You have a QB at ASU that has had 3 starts and has never faced the speed of SEC LB's and DL's. Blitz him from the start, bump the receivers at the line and throw the rythm off. Instead, you know they have a good passing offense with no running game, so you decide to play soft zone on the verge of a prevent defense. Let the athleticism of your team play man up. I let Bo get away with this in the 1st half, by being extremely conservative for the first game, but in the 2nd half I was livid. This kid has picked your soft zone apart so you have to upset his timing, make him wonder if you will blitz or not. Instead he knew what the Defense was doing every time. That was Rush 4 with the LB's backing up playing zone and the CB's playing 10 yards off the WR's. Therefore he was getting plenty of time to throw and with so much cushion he didn't even have to be accurate. It was a horrible display of Defensive coaching. I'm no saying fire him, but Les Miles needs to light him up. Thank God ASU couldn't run the ball or we would have been screwed. We will not win the SEC west if that scheme continues. I really don't understand what Pelini was thinking. If we make it to the Rose Bowl using the same scheme, USC (if they make it) will light us up just like they light OU up. OU's secondary was extremely leaky all year just like LSU was. This is the DC's fault. You expect to see the offense with bugs to work out in the first game but not the defense. However, I have to give kudos to the players for sticking in there and not giving up. Well done, but Pelini better change his schemes.
