Because of the Bush, and now Jarret, excess benefits - if USC is forced to forfeit games, and Bush may have to relinquish the Heisman - what would happen to USC's 2003 "Championship"? Would the AP make them forfeit it? Pete Carrol states he "is not worried in the least." I find that hard ot beleive. USC - the new Alabama of the West. No salary cap out there either, I guess.
Being number one in a poll does not make a team a champion if there is a national championship game being played. It just makes them number one in a poll. Southern California was number one in 2 polls, LSU was number one in 9. But polls and rankings only matter in getting into the championship game, which LSU did (and won!) and Southern California did not. They only have one national championship to worry about -- 2004.
I still think they could've avoided all of this if they would have OJ recruit for them. Go to USC or you Die!!! A slow an agonizing death btw! :geauxtige
The AP has never had a rule against voting for teams on probation, so no they won't demand that USC return the trophy. The BCs has no current rule so who knows what they might try and do, but they can't just give OU a trophy for getting their arses beat bad and they won't give it to Auburn either. They may end up losing a PAC 10 Title or two though, the SEC stripped Florida and Bama of titles I believe.
I know it, this is what happens when you are away from home for to long and you don't have anyone to help take care of yourself. I'm a wreck, I'm living like a teenager or single person again. :yelwink2:
Carrol's right. He shouldn't have to worry about 2003...they didn't win the National Championship that year. :thumb:
Back in the early 90's when Washington went through some similar troubles due to Billy Joe Hobert, the PAC came down much harder on them than the NCAA did.
