I saw him having dinner in Houston's in New Orleans a couple of years ago. He was with an incredibly gorgeous woman and he jumped into a really nice ride in the parking lot so I imagine he's doing well at whatever it is he's up to...

He was most definitely an animal at LSU.

He played for Samsung Thunders in KBL (Korean Basketball League) late 1990's and he was one of the dominating players at that time.

Vernel is one of a few former LSU athletes who've been in some movies...
Jeff Wickersham and Mike Papajohn also come to mind. In fact, Papajohn,
one of Skip's early center fielders, has made a career in acting and stunt work.

I think we remember him as better than he really was. Great leaper and defender, but couldn't throw it in the ocean.

Dont think he played much center. Blanton's last year was Vernel and CJ's first and the next year Shaq and Stanley played.

    I disagree somewhat...
Some of the old games I have watched lately, Vernal has hit some jumpers from around the free throw line or a couple feet behind.
Keep in mind they didn't run plays for him because everyone else was a little
better than he was, CJ, Maurice, Shaq, etc.

He was able to hit some shots on occasion but it didn't happen that often
because we didn't need his offense just his other qualities.

Vernell portrayed an NBA player in the Whoppie Goldberg movie "Eddie" a few years ago.

vernel was the most liked guy ever to come through the LSU basketball program. My mom absolutely loved him and never met him. Every LSU fan I ever met just can't forget that guy...and not because of basketball...just cuz he came across as the greatest guy ever...forever humble and gave his all. he was a great player on top of it all.
