No, Les was saying that Ridley's job was the protect the football with both hands and run out the clock, but when he saw a seam he instinctively cut for it with one hand on the ball for speed and balance . . . and lost it. It just means that Ridley lost focus. The next thing Les said was "we going to find some players that can focus." ------ "Do you know what your bidness is, boy?
yes i know. someone said that on the last drive where ridley fumbled we should've just knelt it 3 times and gone home. I said we couldn't just do that because UNC had 2 timeouts left to stop the clock twice and with a 3rd kneel we still have to punt it to UNC and they would have 20 or so seconds left.
Because that was 3rd down. If we take a knee at around 1:08 on third down(actually would've been earlier as the ball was rolling around and returned before the UNC ball carrier went out of bounds with 1:08), with no TOs, 4th down snap happens at around :28. Clock stop for change of possesion. UNC get the ball at what, their own 20(?) with about :20 with no timeouts(probably more like :25). With the way they were throwing the ball I still don't like those odds. We get a first down, which we would have, and the game is over. PERIOD! What are the chances we fumble? Not as sure a thing as them getting the ball if we kneel, but it could happen(obviously because it did). I think Les is right, Ridley did seem like he was trying to score a TD more than hold onto the ball. Player mistake but maybe emphasizing ball security in that situation a little more would have done some good. I agree with the play call there, but the player could've been coached up better. Hopefully Les makes sure Ridley does not EVER make this mistake again. That is how I think we should judge Les for this particular situation and beyond. Unfortunately undesciplined mistakes like this seem to regularly occur and we don't learn from our mistakes.
Has Miles, a man full of integrity, ever told the truth about what the hell he is doing with this team within the last 3 years?
