I realize there is crime, but it is really no worse than it has ever been. I have lived in the off-campus area for 35 years and been a part of the LSU community for most of that time. The area north of campus has deteriorated, but there is new up-scale condo development on state street, nicholson, and highland road and students have always lived in the neighborhood, too. I did for 19 years.

I just objected to the word "surrounded" by ghettos, which simply isn't the case. There is a low-income, high crime neighborhood just north of LSU, but it has been there since the new campus was built in 1924. It's where about half of the LSU facility services staff lives. The area east of campus are old big tree, expensive upscale neighborhoods for miles.

Unless things have changed since 2001...LSU is definitely not surrounded by "ghetto" :rolleye33:

Not sure how LSU can be surrounded by ghettos when one side is a river.

The North is beyond terrible the the rest is really nice.

Rumor has it that the casino developers have been buying up property down there ever since the election. Apparently they have no intention of building their fantastic resort one mile from the hood.

I got a flat tire there my freshman year at LSU. I walked to that gas station on the south side of the road and thought I wasnt coming back alive. Its generally a rule of thumb to avoid gas stations that have more people on hanging out on the outside of it than inside.

Back gardere is bad, toward the river. Allong burbank is not close to "ghetto" and new condos are popping up all along burbank. and gardere IS almost 5 miles from LSU. I drive it every day.

I live on Bluebonnet and Burbank in Westhaven. The neighborhood here is nice as any college neighborhood in baton rouge. And Westhaven is 4 miles closer to gardere than LSU is.....:nope:
