A "real" fan is one who feels it in their heart as much as in their head. One who will occassionally gripe about the goings on but still will sit in front of the TV to watch and cheer them on. One who given the choice between regular clothes and school colors, picks the school colors. They are the ones that will spend $50 of their last $100 to watch the game in person. But lastly they are the people who seem to understand that things can't always be perfect and teams can't always win. They expect that their team will play to the absolute best of their potential. But perhaps their team loses in spite of that. They congratulate them on their effort and wish them well next game. And at night, when they go to sleep, they turn off the LSU lamp still happy to be part (even so minor) of this wonderful thing we call LSU athletics.

    Amen brother!

I agree. Also, if you have to go to every game to be a fan, then there are only 91,000 Tiger fans in this country - at most since many of those don't go to every game. To be a Tiger fan all you need to do is support the team and keep the faith. That does not mean refraining from criticizing it when criticism is called for.

Anybody posting on a Tiger board is a true Tiger fan. Any ticket holder, any radio listener, anybody that follows the Tigers is a fan. Among these fans are gloom-and-doomers, sunshine pumpers, fine human being, and complete pr!cks. There are glass-half full types and glass-half-empty types. There are Republicans and Democrats and Independents. There are atheists and priests.

Being a true Tiger fan has nothing to do with one's politics, religion, temperament, or intelligence . . . only with being a fan of the Tigers.

A true fan stays for the last snap when its pouring down rain and you are getting crushed by Florida in tiger stadium.

Anyone here remember "Superfan" from the early/mid 90's.

He was either mildy retarded or had some disability (don't flame me here), and would pretty much get hyper at the LSU basketball games. Every game he would run up and down the aisle in the student section. Back when the students were still courtside, Superfan could attract everyone's attention. The trouble, however, was the guy simply annoyed everyone. Keep in mind this was around the time Dale Brown's teams were performing poorly. Superfan would cheer and run despite watching Gert throw another brick with the team running a 15 point deficit.

It got so obnoxious, people began throwing ice at him in hopes he might sit down after two or three runs. These antics only served to further inspire Superfan, and he responded in kind with taunts and more aisle running. After one particularly nasty episode, a Marshal or somebody like that stepped in to calm the boy down. Despite the controversy, schools always love a good stooge, and Superfan was featured in the Reveille and participated in some cheers.

Maybe some other forum members remember this guy.

A real fan is someone who takes his(or her) devotion to his team to a much higher level than an average fan. Some good examples...

    1. He gets mad when they lose and it lasts days.
    2. He is never embarrassed to wear his team clothing.
    3. He never gives up on his team.
    4. He truly hates to miss viewing a game in person or on TV.
    5. He shows up in person when they play for a NC.
    6. He posts on message boards for his team year round.:thumb:
