Anyone into Tolkien? The Silmarillion is one of the greatest stories or collection of stories ever written. Great read, if you liked Lord Of the Rings and wanted to know the history of those characters, the history of middle earth, and Ea itself.
My 7th grade honors students are currently reading The Hobbit, so yeah, that's what I'm reading right now.
great book, and good for 7th graders, that one is kind of different than the others, but still a literary treasure.
Yes, it's pretty fun for most of them, especially if they've seen the LOTR trilogy and can picture everything--more of the boys like it than the girls.
yeah i can see girls not being that into it, especially since the hobbit really lacks female characters. i bet they would like Dracula.
I usually read the trilogy about once every two years. I still have to follow along with a map of Middle Earth to follow to protaganists in their travels though
One of the projects my students have to do for The Hobbit is create a map of Middle Earth, charting Thorin and Co. on their journey. The kids use brown grocery bags for this. Some of them do incredible artwork.
Sounds like a good creative project. Even with just The Hobbit, there is well enough description to create awesome maps. Mine came with a leatherbound copy of the trilogy that has everything relative to Middle Earth on it, some only covered in the other works.
Great book. If you like naval historic fiction try Annapolis by William Martin. Currently reading Islands in the Stream by Hemingway right now. Next up: A Confederacy of Dunces and then re-read the Odyssey
I just finished Surely Your'e Joking Mr. Feynmen for about the 60th time. I have been reading some comic book anthologies Batman R.I.P, The Sinestro Corps War, and Final Crisis. I just picked up The Scientist Looks at the Sasquatch by Grover Krantz. It was really hard to find in English, but it examines various aspects of the evidence for Sasquatch.
