This story that the Browns won't let him out of his contract, or won't let him interview, sounds like a load of BS to me. First of all, wasn't he already interviewed by Miles? Secondly, doesn't the anti-tampering rule apply only to other NFL teams? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Miami can interview Nick Saban before LSU's bowl game, but LSU can't interview (and hire, for that matter) an NFL assistant on a team that fired its head coach and didn't make the playoffs?! Something else is going on, perhaps Edwards wants to hang around in Cleveland and see if he lands on the new staff there. I still say that's no reason to give the DC job to Bill Clay by default. Does anyone have any solid info on this?

Has nothing to do with tampering rule in regards to Edwards, it has to do with (so the story goes) that Cleveland doesn't want to let him out of his contract (which is still valid) until they hire a new head coach. Once that coach is hired, if he wishes to retain Edwards, he can do so..if he does not want him, he will be released from his contract.

Browns were 'blown away' by Crennel when he interviewed. Hopefully they can announce him as HC by Friday - otherwise they'll have to wait until NE is either knocked out or wins the SB to name him HC. They could also hire someone else...they were high on Nolan as well - either way, if we want Edwards as DC, we need Cleveland to make a HC decision soon.

Put some PC heat on the Browns

This may not come out right, but, if Edwards really wants to come to LSU, maybe he could put a little PC heat on the Browns organization -- along the lines of, "Browns hold outstanding minority coaching candidate hostage -- arbitrarily prevent him from gaining promotion from NFL position coach to college coordinator."

Yea pulling out the race card would be really smart. LSU does not need that kind of attention or scandal right now. Bad idea.
