I am not talking about today... I had a professor who talked about this and presented research on the subject from multiple sources. Anaerobic organisms (bacteria) were brought into the discussion often. Organisms discovered living on thermal vents, and not long ago a multicellular anaerobic organism found in the Mediterranean. Yes, there are Organisms that can survive for longer than a day even if an asteroid crippled the earth. Now if someone proclaimed that all human beings could be gone in one day I would find it hard to believe but couldn't say it isn't possible.
